I’ve always wondered something…On what part of the female DNA strand does the “I’m not good enough” gene come from? Why is it that we can do something 98% right, but we focus on the 2% we didn’t?. This was really evident to me in a conversation I was having with my mom yesterday. We were talking about my memories from my childhood. She said she’s always amazed when I send her Hallmark cards about what a great mom she’s been to me. She said she felt like she was always too busy and wasn’t around much. “Are you kidding me?” I asked. “I have so many memories of us together!” They usually involved some sort of craft – my Mom is very crafty (must have skipped a generation!)

I told her I felt like I wasn’t being as good of a mom to my kids as she was to me because I don’t feel like I do enough with my kids and that 30 years from now they are going to be sitting in a therapist’s office saying “She was so unavailable – she was always working!” “You do so much with your kids!” she said. “They have traveled all over the place, you take them to Disney World, out to restaurants…It seems like you are always going somewhere with them. Any child would be lucky to have you two as parents!” It really struck me that we both thought the other one did such a good job, but we didn’t extend that same kindness to ourselves. That’s what it really boils down to for me…kindness. We should treat ourselves with the same (or more) kindness that we extend to people we don’t even know.
Speaking of people I don’t know, I got to meet a wonderful customer yesterday. One of the things that I don’t like about being an online store is that we don’t get to meet our customers face-to-face and learn about why they scrapbook. It’s always so nice when people stop by the warehouse. She is a pilot and had a layover in Orlando and came to visit! (Our picture is on the blog). She was telling me about the scrapbooks she has made and the things she has used some of our products for. Her daugher is in the Air Force and she makes her homemade cards with the Memories In Uniform die cuts when she graduates from training on a certain type of aircraft. As I sift through the thousands of scrapbook products available, looking for unique things for our store, it’s always a challenge to choose things that will help people with their scrapbooks. Thank you Karen for inspiring me!
We have over 160 new products this week. We have lots of travel, including some international, some USA and laser die cuts inspired by our long plane ride to California for CHA. We made a large title page die cut that says “The Travels of Julie Swatek.” (Of course, we will customize with your name instead of mine!). We have some new cruise from Sandylion, along with some “Muster Drill” die cuts, inspired by my recent cruise. There are 3 new lines from Reminisce: Family, Jungle Safari and Dance. We also have a Tiffany designed SYT kit for ballet dancers. Click on the link to check them out:

I downloaded a bunch of pictures from my camera this weekend and thought I’d share a few – scroll down to see them.
As always, thanks for your business! Be kind to yourself today

I buy so much stuff from you, I thought I would take a look at your pictures. Looks like a wonderful family. We went to Vegas last year to a family wedding and also went to Hoover Dam. It is enormous. Our biggest adventure ever just end with an amazing trip to Africa! I took a million photos, so I am scrapping like crazy!

I just finished a scrapbook for our trip to Italy last March to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary(just in time to do it again in 2 weeks) It is hard to find stuff for foreign travel but you have a tremendous selection. I look forward for the next challenge and hope you can fill the bill for Sicily. I have not checked your website yet but I am sure I can find something. Thanks,

hi, Julie! I met you at your warehouse in Sept. 2007. You were on your way out so we didn’t get to talk much. I was so impressed with your business. I was like a kid in a candy store when i was taking the “tour”. Rhonda was a huge help and a wonderful tour guide. I got to meet all of the employees there and talked briefly with them. I even got to see some of the SYT die cuts being made on the computer. It was facinating. I love all of your products and enjoy your emails. As far as our families are concerned, I know how you feel. I raised two boys in longwood, florida (i now live in hampton, VA). I dragged them to all of the local craft shows, craft stores, and flea markets. after they grew up, i really felt bad about doing that. when i talked to my oldest son about it recently (he’s 27), he told me that it was ok, that he had something that his friends didn’t have. he KNEW his parents loved him. my heart just melted. it made it all worth while. hang in there, it gets better. kids don’t come with intructions. we do the best we can with what we know and in the end, most of the time, it turns out great. i know this because my husband is a clinical psychologist. i know WAY too much about psychology! he says it’s not the quantity of time, but the quality of time we give our kids. i think he’s got it right there. show your kids that you love them, don’t keep them guessing! thanks!!

I love your site! Especially reading your email blogs. I am getting ready to start scrapbooking my Walt Disney World Trip (that was my 40th birthday present to myself!) In all – my girlfriend and I took 1200 pictures! And Disney – with their Photo Pass thing took 94! I’m going to have to have an album for each day!!!

I don’t have good memories of my mom growing up. She was always very critical of everything I accomplished, and was always pre ccupied with whatever happened to be going on with her at the time. One of my goals when I became a mom ( I have 3 kids, 16, 10, and 7 and I am a single parent just recently) was to make good memories with my kids. I haven’t been able to afford big trips, but I have found that it doesn’t really matter to my kids, what matters is the time, love and guidance you give to your kids. I feel I have accomplished 100% of at least one goal I set in life and it feels pretty good. Julie you have a beautiful family keep making the great memories with them. And thanks for the great opportunity you give the rest of us moms to document our memories with your products, you are truely appreciated.

Cindi, I will be 65 years old next Tuesday and am a mother of 2, and a grandmother of 2. I had a wonderful Mom, but had never been on a vacation until I was married. One thing I have learned through the years, it’s never the things that you think will make wonderful memories – Disney Land, etc. What I, my children and my grandchildren always talk about at family gatherings is the day-to-day; our favorite thing my mother cooked, fishing together at her pond, shooting snakes (the boys) at her pond. So, hang in there and keeping making those memories with you children.
Now Julie, looked your family pictures and your products. I’m scrapping my “life”, so use a little bit of everything; heritage, military, sports, travel, baby, you name it and – except for International travel – I’ll probably use it eventually! Keep up the good work. Thanks, Pat

I don’t usually have time to read people’s blogs, but something drew me to yours today. I love what you had to say. In fact, I’m going to “scraplift” the first paragraph to send to me own daughters. (Hope you don’t mind) It IS the quality time you spend, but also the love you give, whether you are with them or far away. One more factor enters in and I don’t think we have any control over it: I am 57 and I have wonderful memories of my mother, I have chosen to forget anything that wasn’t wonderful. My 60 year brother remembers only the bad times and can’t get past them to remember the good times. (I don’t mean we were abused children). How sad. You are doing everything right-don’t second guess yourself, don’t let yourself feel guilty for trying your best and DO enjoy those beautiful children every moment you can. Your mother has every right to be so proud; I would be were you my daughter!

Julie, I felt for you when you had the flu. I was going thru the same thing at the same time as you, that is why I didn’t e mail you then. I’m better but still get sooo tired. I was also anemic and on medicine that made me sick. My count is up now and Dr. took me off the medicine, but I still feel like I’ve been run over by a truck, a very large truck at that. Anyway, take care of yourself. You do a great job with your business and your staff is wonderful. I always am eager to see your new things. Hope one day to meet you. Take care, and God bless. Wanda

Hi
I have just read your blog – you have a wonderful online store – I know whatever I cannot find at my local store I am sure to find here. I live in a small town in middle of nowhere South Dakota – having come from Cape Town South Africa! I absolutely LOVE the South Africa items you have – I hope you can get more.
Keep up the great work – I know I look forward to seeing the new items. I have only been scrapping for about 3 years but it certainly is “addictive” – I am amazed at how much I have already collected. I love buying paper – I’m sure I will get round to using it all someday – maybe when I’m 100 – I have so much – but I love having it on hand – you never know when you can use it.
Thanks for a great store and website!
Gail

Hi Julie
I need to ask why you do not have a “wish list” area so customers can hold items they may want to order in the future. Also I would love to be able to purchase more Disney items from you because you are the only site that offers generours discounts. I have to purchase my Disney scrapbook items from another online store because I cannot get the abundance of Disney items from your site; which I would prefer.
Also does anyone make 81/2 x 11 scrapbook page protectors. My mom has an album which is for this size & it is difficult to find pages to fit.
Thankyou
Connie La Tempa

So happy to see the new Safari line. We have had a membership to the San Diego Zoo for years so have loads of photos at both the Zoo and the Wild Animal Park. After awhile it is hard to come up with a different look. It is great to have something new and playful for our latest visit at Christmas.
And now that I know I drop by to see you, I may have to do a roadtrip from CA to FL!

I loved this blog and the pictures.
We’ve never been to fla. but if we ever do get to go I would love to come by and put faces to all the wonderful notes written on my invoices. They are always a treat to read. We’ve been in Germany almost 4 years now and we try to travel as much as we can since we may never get to come back. Without your website all my pictures of beautiful Europe would be in plain old photo albums.
Thanks for carrying such terrific travel items and most of all thanks for the support you show our military.

I also would like a wish list; I could accumulate 2-4 weeks worth stuff and then would be able to order with one click all the stuff. And, of course, you would be able to say which items were out of stock because I had waited too long.

Julie,
Thank you for all the great products as always. I don’t even bother to go to my local scrapbook store anymore.
Thank you for posting the photos. It is so nice to be able to have a brief glimpse into your family. What a beautiful family you have, you should be very proud. As women we all feel like what we do is never enough, not enough time, or we are always busy. I have struggled with this even being a stay at home mom. It was said to me recently, that my son knows he is loved, and supported, and we are here for him always. But as parents we are people too, with dreams. You have taught your children that when you were handed a layoff, you turned it into a positive, and you have followed your dreams, and been very successful. There are other lessons our children are taught by us, that we don’t realize we are teaching them. I have gone back to school, and I wrestle with the fact that I’m not always available, and am juggling a lot. My 17 year old son and I were talking about this recently. He said mom, I know you love me, and are here for me anytime. You have to follow your dreams like you have taught me. Isn’t that what it is all about, our children see us happy, and ultimately I think that makes them happy. We all do the very best we can.
Have a great day!

I was so touched to see your comments today about your mom. I am the youngest of four children, (almost 46), and my mother’s 83rd birthday is today. I feel the exact same way about my mother as you do about yours, and I can guarantee my mother’s thoughts would be the same as your mother’s. The difference is, my mother was a supervisor R.N. at a small Catholic hospital. She worked a LOT, but she was such a great mom. She always made a casserole for us for dinner, so we would have home cooking whether she could be there or not! I’ve always thought about making a scrapbook for her, but haven’t been able to. I did make a calendar for her with pictures of Maine, where we are from. She absolutely loved it, so I think I will make her a scrapbook too. I hope I can get it done before Mother’s day so I can give it to her then.

I was reading through the messages and can not add anything but to say I agree with everyone here. A South African living in Ireland for the last 8 years, it was really hard for me not being able to craft when we moved here. South Africans love their crafting, and stores are plenty there, but in Ireland they are basically non-existant. I think if I had known about your site sooner, having to deal with a different language (english) and VERY different weather and people would have been easier if I had things to keep me busy. Well, I know about it now, and have loads of goodies to keep me sunny when the sun doesn’t shine for 16 weeks!

I just love your site to shop from, it is great, we were in the military for 20 years before my husband retired, and we got the chance to live all around the world, and we have family all over the US that we visit and we have lived all over the US so I have years of pictures to scrap and I can find such unique stuff I can’t find anywhere else, when I did our cruise pictures, you had everything for it, it was great. I also have pictures of my dad and my uncles in the Veitnam war and World War II and it is nice to be able to find stuff for those that I can scrap, my dad loved the Marine book I did for himwith stuff I got from you.
My family is from belgium and we are american Indian, and tradition and family stories have always been a big part of our life, so I just want my girls to have books and info that I can put in the book that they will have for a lifetime and thier kids and grandkids will have, it is to pass down family they didn’t know and family they did, to remember times when they were little and as they grew. My aunt Minnie just turned 100 and we are doing a book of pictures of her life and stories she has told about her life and things she has seen and lived through. I think that is what scrapping is all bout is to pass on things that other wise might be forgotten over time or not thought about.
I was wondering if you ever come across stuff for like speach and debate, not sure what that would be, but that is what my daughter is in big time , was in high school and now in college.
I also like that you accept paypal, makes it even more fantastic to order stuff from you. Keep up the good work.

I have wonderful memories of being with my mother, but we only went on a very few trips together. Most of my memories of her were us being together just around the house or having lunch or walking through malls or weeding the garden or sitting on the porch together. I think that people today feel that they have to spend thousands of dollars to have a good memory with their family.
I always worked when my three children were young and growing up, but I would stay up from my grave-yard shift in order to be with them on a special day for each child doing nothing special, but making special memories. In that way, we bonded more closely and it is those times that I remember and I hope they do too!
I have my first grandchild now and of course am scrapbooking his thus far short life.
I love your wide selection of papers and will continue to order them.

Hi Julie,
I recently met up with a friend of mine from England in New York City for a get together. As a surprise I gave her a scrapbook and all kinds of scrapbook pages from your site. She was so thrilled. Practically no scrapbooking material is available in England.
My friend realized after 9/11 that she needed to start living her life so every moment counted. She realized what happened in America could happen in England also. Now she goes to ballets all over Europe and in New York when she is here, goes to Paris on a whim to buy pastry, Belgium to buy chocolates, and even took a special flight just to fly over the artic area to see the Aurora Borealis and return back to England. She has visited all the big cities in Europe and even done the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. She goes annually to Carnevale in Venice and is in Holland right now to see the tulips in bloom in the fields. She comes to New York City several times a year to go to Broadway shows, ballet and museums. She is an inspiration to me. Your pages will help her keep track of her photos, playbills and tickets.
The reason I am writing to you about this is I wonder if you realize what an untapped market you might have in England. Perhaps, an ad or two placed in a few British Magazines might prove profitable for you, The British Pound is worth double what the dollar is right now so it seems like a great time to get them involved in one of America’s favorite pastimes. I’ve been told in England they don’t have the ability to produce the items for scrapbooking that we take for granted here. It’s a thought for you to consider, anyway. I sent your web address to one of my friends and will probably send it to another today while I am thinking about it.

Hey, Julie – your comments today really hit a note with me. During the years I was raising my son, I was a single mom concentrating on building a career (which meant I often brought work home) and on dating……My feeling when I look back at those years is that my son was left to fend for himself (or left with a sitter.) His memories are that I was a terrific mom, gave up a lot for him, always let him know he was loved, and he knew he could always count on me to be there for him…….so, there you go. He and I did do a couple of fun vacations to Disneyland, SD, etc., but mostly, I couldn’t afford much, so we stayed close to home. He was FINE with that. You are doing a great job with your kids. I just want to thank you for sharing your ‘humanness” with us….it just makes us feel even more like we are doing business with a personal friend and not some impersonal computer out there!
I absolutely love the new things you have added last week and this. I have many projects going at present – a 2 month trip I made to NZ and Australia, an ongoing book of my church’s Women’s retreat, an “All About Me” album, etc. I sit and go through your offerings, click on the things I want, and the first thing I know, I’m over $100 in things I want! No, haven’t ordered that order yet – may have to do it in increments, but I end up ordering from you almost every week. Your papers are so special – so much better than any I’ve found anywhere else – people are always asking where I find the wonderful papers, eg. Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, etc. My answer always is ‘scrapyourtrip.com” ’cause life is a trip worth scrapping!
Keep the good stuff coming, and I’ll try very hard to keep the money coming in! Oh, a cruise next August – Canada/New England – yes, you have some good stuff for that one too. I can wait, I guess, a while to order those…..but oh, it’s so doggone tempting!
Give you mom a hug, then turn around and give one to each of your kids.
Loine

Thank-you all, i have enjoyed ready ALL your comments.
Being from SA, our scrapping “goodies” are really limited, most of the things around are imported from OZ – and are mostly B-day, family, etc.
When i got back from Europe i was stuck – tried doing my own thing but…… I searched on different travel sites, & came across Scrap-Your-Trip, WELL – I have scrapped & scrapped. My husband and i will going to Greece in September & I have already ordered my “stuff” just so i get the right photo for the write page.
Thank-you,

Love the kittens…=]
A suggestion: rub a little catnip on a scratching post(s!), we have a cat tree with two post areas covered with rope, We also have the board covered with carpet and rope. It is designed to hang from a door, but we leave it on the floor; rub it with catnip, too.
When you catch them scratching something other than the rope, take them to the rope and scratch it with your fingers. They will likely start scratching before you can get your hand out of the way!
The door hangers are relatively inexpensive and if you leave one in the areas mostly frequented by the kittens they will look for the rope to scratch instead of that favorite chair!

This is the first time I’ve visited your blog. I absolutely love your products…whenever a friend is looking for something in particular…I always refer your website. I LOVE it and it’s so easy to find what I need. We are a military family and I really appreciate the free shipping. Thanks. We are being restationed to the East Coast soon…so hopefully I get to visit your warehouse!

DEAR JULIE,
DON’T WORRY ABOUT THE MOM THING TO MUCH FROM WHAT YOU WRITE I CAN ALREADY TELL YOUR KIDS ARE LUCKY TO HAVE SUCH NICE PARENTS. I’M NOT A MOM BUT A NANNY TO A FAMILY AND THE KIDS SPEND MORE TIME WITH ME THAN THEY DO THERE PARENTS (KINDA SAD) THE PARENTS ARE DOCTOR’S AND ALWAY’S OFF TO AN EMERGANCY! AS FOR THE KIDS WHEN I STARTED WITH THEM THERE FIRST BORN BOY WAS 3 WEEKS OLD, HE’S NOW 8 AND THE 2ND BORN IS NOW 5. SINCE THEY WERE OLD ENOUGH I HAVE ALWAY’S DONE SOME KIND OF CRAFT AND SOME KINF OF COOKING SKILL EVERYDAY. NOW AT AGE 8 AND 5, I DON’T LIVE WITH THEM NOW BUT SEE THEM AFTER SCHOOL UNTIL THERE IN BED AND I HAVE TO SAY THEY CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHAT KIND OF CRAFT AND WHAT THEY GET TO COOK AFTER SCHOOL EACH DAY. THE YOUNGEST IS A VERY GOOD LITTLE ARTIST AND THE OLDER ONE CAN COOK BETTER THAN SOME PARENTS I’VE KNOWN.
I BELIEVE IT’S THE LITTLE EXTRA THINGS YOU DO THAT MAKES KIDS HAPPY, A KISS ON A BOO BOO, OR A HUG WHEN THERE HAVING A BAD DAY AND JUST LETTING THEM KNOW THERE LOVED. I DIDN’T GET THAT GROWING UP BUT IT’S IMPORTANT FOR ME TO SHOW IT TO EVERYONE I KNOW NOW.
AS FOR LAUREN AND LOGAN THEY ARE SOOOOO CUTE AND I KNEW BY YOUR VALENTINES LETTER THAT YOUR LITTLE LOGAN WAS A HEART BREAKER AND HE REALLY IS AND TELL YOUR HUSBAND HE BETTER WATCH OUT FOR THOSE BOY’S ON YOUR LAUREN SHE’S SUCH A CUTIE!!!!
AS FOR YOUR PRODUCTS I JUST FOUND YOUR SITE BUT NOW I CAN’T GET AWAY FROM IT. I ALWAY’S COME BACK TO SEE WHAT YOU’VE ADDED, WHEN I GET YOUR LETTER’S AND OF COURSE HAVE TO BUY THE NEW STUFF TOO.
YOU SEE I’M ADDICTED TO BUYING SCRAPBOOKING STUFF!!! I DO LOVE SCRAPBOOKING BUT I LOVE BUYING THE STUFF I THINK MORE!!! YOU HAVE SO MUCH STUFF THAT I CAN’T GET ANYWHERE ELSE, SO I’M GLAD I FOUND YOU!!!! I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE MORE DISNEY STUFF AND ALSO FOR SEA WORLD AND ANIMAL KINGDOM. I CAN’T FIND ANYTHING FOR ANIMAL KINGDOM!!! MY NIECE WAS PICKED THIS PAST YEAR TO BE THE GUEST OF THE DAY AT ANIMAL KINGDOM WHICH GAVE HER A 45 MINUTE SESSION ALONE WITH ALL THE CHARATERS. WE HAVE A PICTURE OF HER WITH ALL OF THEM BUT I CAN’T FIND ANY SAFRI CHARATERS EXCEPT MICKY.
WAS THERE EVEN ANY MADE? I CAN’T EVEN GET ANY AT THE DISNEY STORE!!!
ANYWAY’S THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR LIFE WITH US ALL!
