Scrap Your Trip Adds 202 Items + Basic Grey Granola & Urban Prairie

Entry Filed under: New Items Added

I believe there are two types of people in the world…those who like to pack for a trip ahead of time and those who pack the night before (or the day of).  I’m one of the latter.  I did so much traveling last year to all the CK Conventions that I got to the point where I could pack in about 20 minutes.  Lauren, my 8-year old daughter, however, is one of the "ahead of time" packers.  We are leaving Friday for our annual Vermont fall "leaf peeping" vacation and she has been packed for over a week.  She would have started packing a month ago if I had let her!

Every year when we think about this trip, we wonder if we should spend the money and this year is certainly no exception.  With the doom-and-gloom blaring at us from every TV and newspaper, we wondered if we should cancel.  But I used the 10-10-10 rule in making my decision and as usual, it helped make the right choice.  What is the 10-10-10 rule?  It’s based on an article by Suzy Welch I read a few years ago.  Basically, when you have a decision to make, ask yourself what are the consequences in 10 minutes, 10 months and 10 years.  So, what are the 10 minute consequences?  We’d save money but all be disappointed.  What are the 10 month consequences?  Next year, we’d all be talking about how we didn’t go.  What are the 10 year consequences?  Lauren and Logan are at the age when they will remember this.  Ten years from now, this time in history will be able to be summed up in 3 seconds, but my kids would always remember the year we cancelled our trip.  Fall in New England is good for our souls and it’s always a time of tremendous bonding and memory making in our family.  As I sit here at my desk at home writing this, there are pictures on my desk and wall from the last two years worth of trips.  I’m not willing to give up these times with my kids (while they still want to go on vacation with their parents), so we’re going.  We’re going to come back a few days earlier than we had originally planned, but the 10 year consequence of having my children remember their fall vacations in Vermont as some of the best times of their childhoods, I’m not willing to give up. :-)

We have over 200 new items this week, including the new Granola and Urban Prairie collections from Basic Grey.  We also just got the rest of the embellishments from the Ambrosia, Eva and Offbeat collections.  We only ordered a limited quantity, so when they’re gone, they’re gone!  We have some great Halloween stuff this week.  We have the Whimsy collection from K&Co, and as usual, it’s some of my favorite.  They made some awesome paper crafting kits:  a Haunted Tree, favor bags, a Trick or Treat garland kit, a skeleton kit and pumpkin lantern kits.  It’s a great way to do something quick and crafty – they did most of the work.  We got lots of supplies to help you scrapbook all your trick-or-treaters in costume (Spiderman, Batman, Disney Princesses, Buzz and Woody, Hannah Montana, High School Musical, Superman/Supergirl, and more).  We have the Thankful breast cancer collection from Melissa Frances (who is battling it herself), the new Sweet collection from Die Cuts with a View, military, road trip, UK, Germany, autumn (you’re going to love Tiffany’s scarecrow die cut!) and sports, including a customized football helmet and pennant.  Click here to see all the new items:  http://www.scrapyourtrip.com/whatsnew.html.

As always, thanks for your business!

Have a great time to Vermont!! I used to live there and miss the fall in Vermont.

I totally agree with you about doing things that your children remember. My children are now grown but we all have wonderful memories and pictures of the many trips and activities that we did as a family when they were younger. I have always said that we may not have lived in the fanciest house in the neighborhood but my children remember the many things that we did together. We spent our extra money on the children rather than on “things.” Have a wonderful time!

Have a wonderful trip! I grew up in a small town where the fall colors in the mountains were just beautiful, now that I am in the city, I so miss the change of seasons.
Trips like these make great family memories. I had to laugh a little at the comment, that your children still enjoy traveling with you. Julie, it doesn’t change as they get older. Our son will be graduating from High School, and he still loves to go with us. As long as the trips draw interest, they are more than willing to go along. Which we love, as hectic as life gets with teenagers, we appreciate that time with him.

I enjoyed your post, especially how to weigh matters with the 10-10-10 rule, which I had never heard of.

I am a west coast gal, but have always wanted to join the leaf peepers some fall. I have seen a number of shots from other’s trips and the colors are surreal!

Thank you for your thoughts. Cindy”:-)

Never miss an opportunity to travel, it’s such an adventure & so much more fulfilling than buying “things”. Sounds like you’re going to have a great time!! Enjoy!

Also, thanks again for your support of the military & their families!!

Love your way of thinking! With everything going on in the economy I was starting to feel the doom and gloom. I love the 10, 10, 10 idea! I will be using it often. Have a great time in New England – I’m looking out my window right now as the leaves are starting to change (I’m in Southeastern PA) I forget sometimes the beauty of nature. Enjoy the time with your family, they will always remember the memories!

I envy you so much!! I have always wanted to travel to that part of the country in the fall. This is my favorite time of the year, so I know I wouldn’t have had to think about it too long, lol.
I really think that family vacation’s are the best way for families to bond. Now that we are Grandparents, every summer we go back to the same place that we took our kids when they were little and they loved it there. Now, my daughter and her husband and our 2 Grandson’s go with us. They look forward to it so much.
I agree with the other comments. Spending time with your children and Grandchildren is what holds families together – not a big fancy house or cars. Kids remember the time you spend with them, even when they are older.
    Have bunches of fun!!!!!

When my son played college football, my husband and I and our friends would drive 3 hours each way on Saturdays to watch him play. The drive up the New York State Thruway was truly amazing – the most beautiful sites. It’s something you always remember.

    Enjoy your trip!

By the way, I noticed you have diecuts for Brooklyn and Queens – what about Staten Island??

From your email letters, I feel like I know you – it’s how you feel about a really good friend. Thanks for sharing your family and your life with us. I look forward to each of your letters. Enjoy Vermont! In Texas along the coast fall lasts about a day so we don’t get to enjoy the beautiful changing of the leaves. One suggestion – we need more paper on hurricanes – I have many pictures of the wrath of Hurricane Ike and would love more appropriate paper. Thanks for working for us avid scrappers!!

All I can say is Welcome to my neck of the woods!! I live in Troy, NY and the best part of that is that I’m only 30 miles from Bennington, VT. Although I love my town there’s just something about Vermont that’s different, relaxing and restoring. Julie, if I had the time I could give you directions to the best apple picking, best home-baked cookies, most scenic drive and of course Ben and Jerry’s :) . I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Julie…just wanted to let you know that I love to read your emails and look forward to the next one. You have such a nice way of including all of us in your day to day life. It makes me feel like I know you and your family. Everyday I analyze my day and try to cut out the things that really won’t make that much of a difference. I find myself letting the little things go and focusing on my kids and their activities, needs, etc. I am totally in favor of making memories. It’s nice to know that other moms feel the same way I do!

I have only had this pleasure once. Five years ago we toured through New England in late Oct. and stayed at the Von Trapp Inn in Stowe a couple nights. The leaves were just beautiful, as were the flowers. We took a two hour train ride where we saw scenery that we couldn’t have seen from the motor coach. We’re a senior couple, and miss the times when we traveled with our children. Enjoy them every day you can, as they grow up so fast and get so busy with their own families. I love the 10-10-10 and will apply it in the future. We had to give up our annual “Oct. week at the beach” this year because of the economy, and it saddens me every time I think of it. I love your letters and read them even when I’m not in the market for anything. BTW, what state do you live in? I’m in S.C.
