Scrap Your Trip Adds 171 Items and 171 S*A*L*E Items
Entry Filed under: New Items Added
When the dust has settled after Christmas, I always make the kids go through all their toys. An unwritten rule is that for every new toy they received, an old one needs to go. If we don’t do this, the toys start to take over the house. Sometimes, the toys that go are ones they never really played with much in the first place. Sometimes, they are ones that were absolute favorites, but have just been outgrown.
Managing the inventory of a scrapbook store is a lot like managing the kids’ toys. It’s called "inventory turns" and how well you do it is the number one factor that determines whether or not you can stay in business.
At least once a week we get an e-mail from a customer telling us their local scrapbook store has closed. It breaks my heart to hear that because I know how much passion and hard work it takes to run a business. But…a store can have the most passionate owner, the best classes, the most inspiring instructors, but if they can’t turn their inventory, they are going to go under. You may know a store that has the exact same stuff every time you go in there…never anything new. That’s because all the money is sitting on the shelf and there is none left over to get anything fresh.
It’s just like the toys. If my kids want a new Nintendo game, they have to take their old one to Game Stop and trade it in towards a new one.
We’re pretty good at "inventory turns", but I know we can do better. So, for 2009, just like with the toys, one new one in…one old one out. We have 171 new items added this week and 171 items on sale at a 25% discount. The items aren’t discontinued, just on sale
. It helps you to scrapbook for less and it allows me to continue to bring you new products every week. I’m all about the win-win! (I’m also all about making sure Scrap Your Trip is still going strong on 1/1/2010 and wishing you another Happy New Year. I am well aware that 2009 is going to be challenging, but we are up for the challenge!)
As always, thanks for your business.

I absolutely love your amazing inventory. I wish that you could give the dimensions of the diecuts. I realize it would require a lot of extra work. Thanks for your site.

Yes, the inventory problem has hit us here in Indiana. Many of our stores have closed with a great one which I thought seemed to have fresh things just seemed to vanish overnight. Unfortunately, I had gift cards that I had not used! Drats! We now have one national brand and one store that is truly supported by the photo and camera division which has been a fixture in our community. All of this has just reinforced with me the importance of SYT and why I have been a loyal customer for probably most of your existence. Keep up the good work!!

Even in a big city with over 1 million people, like Tucson, we have very few LSS left and just the big names like Michaels and Joann to choose from. I find your site to be so unique and creative and has grown so much over the past few years that it is refreshing to still have the small site feel that it does. The personal touches are what makes you standout and will keep you in business for as long as you choose. Continued success in these difficult times are wished for you!

Maybe I missed them but I don’t recall seeing any Super Bowl Party/Game products. I’m not a football fan but sure those who are would love to scrapbook the events of that day.
Thanks for keeping up with all the products, not easy. I look forward to my e-mail each Wednesday!

I love your site. However, my husband doesn’t, if you know what I mean– $$$. We go on a cruise every year, so I am always looking for new cruise papers, and die cuts, stickers, etc. I used to be able to buy individual Island paper (12×12). For example, one page would say the name like “St. Thomas” and have a matching paper to go with it. They are great start pages for different islands in a scrapbook. I would love for you to carry as many different ones that you can find. I’m sure they would be great sellers. The ones I have gotten in the past were: San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Martin, St. Lucia, Barbados, Cozumel, Mexico, Antigua, Ochos Rios, Jamaica, and Grand Cayman. You don’t seem to carry many. I’m now looking for: San Juan (again), Dominica, Grenada, Bonaire, and Aruba. Thank you. I’ll keep shopping, non the less.
