I just love fairs! The Florida Strawberry Festival is going on right now and we took the kids last weekend. It’s always the weekend of Lauren’s birthday (I can’t believe she’s 9!!!), so we go almost every year. The time was the most fun we’ve ever had. The kids are old enough to go on most of the rides and old enough to think they’re fun instead of terrifying.
The rides are fun, the strawberries are good, the people watching is hilarious, but you know what the best part is? Fair food! I have never seen so much fried food (or turkey legs) in my life! As we were walking around, Lauren wanted to know why everything was on a stick. Corn dog on a stick…chicken on a stick…deep fried snickers on a stick…They were deep frying things I didn’t know you could deep fry, like Oreos, cookie dough and Pepsi. How the heck do you deep fry Pepsi anyway? I wanted to try it, but by the time we got back to it, I had a terrible stomachache from all the deep fried junk!
However, the award for the most unbelievable fair food goes to "The Chocolate Barn" for…ready for it?…chocolate covered bacon! (If you don’t believe me, check out the picture below). Who knows, maybe it’s like chocolate covered pretzels and it’s really good?
Afterwards, the kids said it was one of the best days of their lives.
Makes every minute of the stomachache worth it!

The SYT designers were working on the following themes this week: Japan, Morocco, United Kingdom, Missouri, North Dakota, Baseball, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Mountain Biking, Cruise, Sourthwest, St. Patrick’s Day and more. We had such a great response to last week’s custom paper with two different sayings/words in two different fonts that we also made a diagonal option this week.. We also have two custom die cuts: a cruise ship and a theatre sign. My favorite die cut of the weeks come courtesy of one of my long-time customers, Dolores from Nebraska: "I’m a Scrapbook Addict, I Need a 12 x 12 step program!" Lauren and Logan with the stuffed animals they "won" at the fair. It only cost us $20 each! But they were SO proud of themselves for "winning" them.
They ended up riding the Tilt-A-Whirl twice, but Logan wasn’t so sure about it the first time!
See! Chocolate covered bacon! I wouldn’t kid about something like this!

Sounds like everyone had a great time. I love fair food!! I have to agree how do you deepfry Pepsi? I’m not so sure – but the Chocolate Dipt BACON – that is something that I would be willing to try. Thanks for sharing.

Julie, I just love your e-mails. And thanks for the adorable photos of Lauren and Logan. I look forward to your weekly e-mails as if you were a dear friend. Thank you so much for sharing with us out here in Scrap-land!

I live in Texas where the corny dog was invented at the state fair. We always take great interest in what the new foods will be for the year. The fair is in Dallas and I live only 60 miles from there, so we usually go. This year the favorite new food was chicken fried bacon. All of the new foods are fried. I tried it, but it was just too greasy and too salty. I like salty and sweet together, so maybe I would have liked the chocolate covered bacon.

What great photos of Logan and Lauren, sure looks like they had a wonderful time. The last photo says so much, I laughed out loud!
I look forward to every Wednesday when I get your email and the link for your latest products. You don’t treat us like your customers, we are your friends too. I have tried other sites and no one compares to SYT! Not only do I love ordering from your site, I look forward to getting my packages as well, it always feels like Christmas. The personal notes from your staff with my order form are a wonderful touch and make me feel valued. Being stationed in Germany, Scrapbooking supplies are limited, but I can always depend on this site to get everything I need and find many new things that inspire my pages. I’ve shown my projects to several of my coworkers and they are impressed with the results, but I can’t take all the credit, you deserve it too! Thank you and keep them emails coming.

That last photo is the best! I can’t tell you how many times our family is returning home from a fun-filled day, and my husband and I look to the back seat to see our daughters asleep. The feeling of joy and love that overcomes us is amazing. I’m close to tears just thinking about it. Thank you for sharing your photos.

Love the pictures! My husband and I took our grand-daughter to the fair last year…she’d just turned 2. She couldn’t do any ride other than the merry-go-round, but she loved the animals…and the handlers were very willing to let her go and pet them. She had probably never had her little hands sanitized so much in one day. Taking her back to her mommy looked just like the last picture…I have one with Grandpa carrying a sleeping child up the stairs. It was great fun and we can’t wait to do it again this summer!

My first thought about the deep fried pepsi was that they froze it and treated it like deep fried ice cream…except that Pepsi doesn’t freeze hard because of the sugar! So…I googled ‘deep fried pepsi’ and they actually have recipes online…it’s batter made with pepsi instead of water. I admit that I was a little disappointed, thought they somehow had managed to get a capsule of liquid in there…crazy thought, I know

We moved to Arizona 5 years ago. We used to live just a short distance from the Strawberry Festival. We raised our kids there in Plant City. I really miss Parksdale Farms, their strawberry shortcake was out of this world. Thanks for the wonderful memories. I really like your e-mails. Even though I have never ordered from you I recommend your site to everyone I know that scrapbooks. You always carry such unique things.
Wow ,deep fried Pepsi ?! I would have liked to see how they did that.

Oh I am so jealous!! Strawberry Fairs in March!! Us poor Chicagoans are still bundled up in scarves, gloves, winter coats and boots! I can just smell the corn dogs, elephant ears, chocolate and all the other goodies!! But Jules, it sounds like you ate enough for all of us!! Good for you – that’s what fairs are for right? And so glad to hear that Lauren and Logan had the most wonderful day ever. And please – could you tell them to stop growing!! They are getting so big. Oh to be a mom with little kids again. I love that I get to relive all those wonderful moments through you!!
As always, miss you like crazy – and you are always in my heart dear one – right next to our “Chucker”!!
Love Auntie Nancy

I agree with what others have written, and I do look forward to your newsletters. My DGD Lauren turned 10 on March 1 – they grow so fast! What a wonderful day you had, and I’m certainly jealous of fresh strawberries this time of year. We still have a little snow on the ground (which is unusual for Raleigh) but it’s supposed to be 70 this weekend, so go figure!! Diane

Such precious children! Enjoy every minute as you’ve no idea how fast they grow up. Thanks for sharing with us. I look forward to it.

I was going to say that the Pepsi is put into a dough and then deep fried. Actually I’ve heard of all the foods Julie listed plus a few more. Our town has a Fall Festival the first full week in October that has had all of these foods and more. Try deep fried green beans (not bad) and deep fried pork brain sandwiches (the line can extend for a block). Our Fall Festival has been hailed as the second largest street festival in the US.
