Scrap Your Trip Adds 242 Items + 242 S*A*L*E Items

Entry Filed under: New Items Added

Last Friday I was one of the chaperones on my daughter Lauren’s third grade field trip to St. Augustine.  There were 59 kids in total, with 19 chaperones and we had a blast!  We got off to a rough start (the bus was 1 ½ hours late picking us all up from school), but overall it was a great learning experience for the kids and I really enjoyed myself.  I only had three kids to keep an eye on (one being my own), but it was a nerve-racking experience.  The other two girls kept wandering off and since my kids don’t do that, I’m not used to it!

It was also a learning experience for me…I’ve learned that my daughter has reached the age where her mother embarrasses her.  I knew this day would come, but I was hoping it was a few years off.  When we were on the bus, we passed the restaurant where Tony proposed to me.  Lauren was a few rows ahead of me (didn’t want to sit with her Mom) and I yelled up to her to look at the yellow restaurant…"That’s where Daddy asked me to marry him!".  She gave me a look I have never seen on her face before and turned back to her friends.

When we got home that night (at 9:30!), she told Tony that I had really embarrassed her by telling her that "on the bus in front of her best friend and EVERYBODY!"  I had to smile inside.  It was one of those cute but sad moments.

However, now I know I can embarrass her in front of her friends.  Isn’t that one of the few paybacks that parents get for poopy diapers, sleep deprivation and getting thrown up on?  :-)

I posted a few pictures from our trip below.  I just got a new camera and it’s the best camera I’ve ever had.  Know why?  Because it fits in my purse or my pocket and I always have it with me.  When I was doing research on which one to buy, something I read said "What’s the best camera?  The one you have with you!"  Boy, is that true!  I’ve taken over 140 pictures in March compared to 24 in February.  I’m really happy because I’ve been able to take pictures of everyday stuff, instead of just "big events".  We have a Nikon digital SLR that takes awesome pictures, but I never want to take it anywhere because it’s too big and I don’t want to carry it.  I did about 8 hours of research on my camera and ended up choosing the Sony Cybershot DSCW300 13.6MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom with Super Steady Shot.  I am really happy with the camera, but REALLY happy with all the pictures I’ve been taking.  I posted a few random ones below.

I agree that the best camera is the one you keep with you. We also have a big bulky SLR camera that has exchangable lenses, and an older model that has film (what is that???)…but I prefer my little pocket camera because of its portability. When we did our research we also were concerned with stability and focus in very low light conditions, because many museums and churches etc. do not allow flash. I went to our local store and tried to take a picture of a small piece of paper that I put on the floor half way under a cabinet to keep it in the dark, and that is how we chose our camera. I will have to try out the one you bought and see how it works before our next trip. Our camera is a few years old and technology keep improving year after year.
    Enjoy…

Oh My Gosh!!! I remember the day that I didn’t want my Mom around anymore. She embarrased me at what seemed to be, every minute of the day. I couldn’t get far enough away from her. She even showed up one day to swim practice to pick me up, but she showed up early and found me “making out” with my boyfriend. Uh Oh was I in trouble and talk about being embarrased!!!! So I understand what Lauren is feeling. I still remember that feeling so strongly, it’s like it happened yesterday. Only….. now it’s so many years later, and now I actually want to hold my Mom’s hand again. (She always wanted to hold my hand in public…thought I would die a slow death from that)!

    Julie,
Thanks for sharing your family photos. I too have a great digital SLR and I actually like it better than my Canon G9. But I do take my G9 with me everywhere I go just because it is easier.
I feel for you, I vividly remember the day, my son asked me not to go on his class field trip, because I was at school to much. At the time I was PTA President and Class mom. I was so sad, because I loved just being there to take pictures and share that part of his life. But I respected his wishes, that was his territory, and he liked being independent without mom always looking over his shoulder. I thought about him all day, and couldn’t wait to find out how the trip was, I wanted details. Instead, I got mom it was so much fun, and thank you for not going. Hang in there this is just the beginning of them breaking away.
    Have a great day!

great pics Julie, hang in there, eventually we stop embarrassing our kids.
Any suggestions on how a right handed scrapbooker can continue scrapbooking after they’ve had a serious horse accident and shattered their right arm? Surgery is the 30th and I’m freaking out at the thought of giving it up for a while. Guess I’m just venting and scared but I’m sure someone else has been in my shoes and found a way to work around it. maybe I’m too heavily sedated to think of something. Any suggestions????? :-(

    CHERYL,

I WENT THROUGH A SIMILAR THING WHEN I HAD HAND SURGERY. I WOULD DO DRAWINGS SO WHEN I GOT THE CAST OF I HAD MY PICTURES AND IDEAS AND IT MADE FINISHING PAGES QUICKLY. I ALSO SPENT THE TIME ORGANIZING PICTURES. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Cheryl, have you tried any digital scrapbooking? You might be able to do that one handed. I may be having surgery myself and I’ve been wondering the same thing. I’m hoping I’ll be able to do some organizing. And my surgery (if I have it) will not be as major as yours.

    Hang in there!!

Great pictures! I also had the experience of taking a 3rd grad field trip with my daughter many years ago. I was a working mom so I had taken a day off to go to the St. Louis Science Center. I had three kids also. I had to go back to the Science Center another time because all I got to see that day were three little heads I had to keep track of.

    Glad you enjoyed yourself.

I love going on my children’s field trips because the students that are not mine, love me and will actually remember my name and always say hi to me ( even if it is Hi Max’s Mom) when they see me, even after they are in middle school and high school – unlike my own children, who continually pretend (at about fifth grade and up) that they don’t know me – any where, any time. And, I’m with you – the pictures of all the kids, not only yours, make for good memories later on.
