Scrap Your Trip Adds 248 Items + 248 S*A*L*E Items

Entry Filed under: New Items Added

Today’s email was going to be about my nervousness about my first ski lesson today (my kids are on spring break we’re in Colorado for our first ski trip).  However, I had a rather eventful flight that has been a lesson in human behavior, both good and bad.

When the flight attendant came over the loudspeaker and asked if there was a doctor, nurse, EMT or medical professional on the plane, it got everyone’s attention.  There was a lot of commotion at the front of the plane and when I saw them hang an IV bag from the overhead compartment, I knew someone was in trouble.

It soon became obvious we were descending and then the captain announced that someone onboard needed serious medical attention and we would be making an emergency landing in Oklahoma City.

When the plane landed, the passengers gave the flight attendants and the woman with a stethoscope a round of applause.

As soon as we landed, the paramedics boarded the plane and carried the passenger into a waiting ambulance.

People started turning on their cell phones and calling people to let them know we were delayed.  I heard all the conversations around me, but I didn’t hear one single complaint.  I just heard everyone say, “I hope the person’s okay!”

It is events like this that strengthen my faith in humankind.  So often, people are made out to be selfish, caring only about themselves and “What’s in it for me?”  The people on my flight certainly didn’t act this way.

When bad things happen, people come together.  For me, it made me think about how we’re all connected and when push comes to shove, we act nobly and with honor.

Then there was the bad.

We had been sitting at the gate in Oklahoma City for 20 minutes or so and Logan had been telling me he had to go to the bathroom since we had started our descent.  I kept telling him to hold it, but he turned to me with the “I’m not gonna make it!” look on his face and said “Mommy, I have to go BAD!”

Well, any mom can tell you that six year old boys don’t have very big bladders and when they say they have to go BAD, it means you have seconds before an accident happens.

So, we got up to go to the back of the plane.  The flight attendant (who had already been rude to the girl sitting next to me), tells me that the seat belt light is on and we have to go back to our seats.  I tell her he has to go NOW and can’t wait another minute.  I won’t repeat our entire exchange, but basically she told me I was in direct violation of FAA regulations by disobeying a flight attendant and I told her I didn’t care.  Either he went into the bathroom or he was going to have an accident right there.

She kept yelling at me, but I ignored her and told Logan to go into the bathroom.  I just stood their ignoring her until he was done.  As he was coming out, she called up to the front and asked “Are we going to keep the fasten seat belt sign on?  Otherwise, I’m going to have a line to the bathroom halfway up the cabin!”

Now, I know we weren’t supposed to get up, but when your child’s got to go, they’ve got to go.  Besides, we were sitting at the gate and not in any danger of turbulence.

So, to Casie, the flight attendant…I have flown on Southwest Airlines over 50 times.  You have the distinguished honor of being the un-friendliest Southwest employee I’ve ever encountered.  But don’t worry Southwest, I still “luv” you!

Ok, I am a mom too. My “little” boy is now 20 so I have been through tons more. I must say, I am disappointed in what you did regarding the bathroom. While I really do understand the need for the bathroom NOW, there are also very valid reasons why there are rules for sitting in your seat. It isn’t about the turbulence. It is also about security. There was NO other way to handle this? I am not convinced of that. And it isn’t just about you and the needs of us alone – yes, there could have ended up a line of people who needed the bathroom and that can create a problem for the airline. You are not alone when you ride on a plane and the rules do apply to everyone. You are really very incredibly lucky that you were not removed, jailed and/or fined. Don’t get mad at the flight attendant. She didn’t make the rules but she is paid to enforce them.
I am truly very disappointed in you. Your posts always seem so upbeat and positve – not self centered. I am sorry, but if you look at this incident from another point of view you are not in the right here. You were just as wrong as she. And as I always taught my child – two wrongs NEVER make a right.

I agree with ScrappyLady that we just don’t see these new items in stores(what with the dwindling number of scrapbook stores we have in our area). I just returned from visiting a scrapbook convention. I felt like “seen that, done that” when I finished as there was nothing really new. Few make and take its and certainly nothing really new other than some laser cuts-and why not buy mine custom made from you??
Thanks for always giving us what we need…before we need it!!

I just have to agree with the customer service being important at scrap your trip! I was impressed the last time I got my order there was a note on the invoice that said “Amy, always nice to see your name come across on an order” While I am sure other customers have seen the same message, it was a great feeling to know that you noticed and took the time to hand write a little note just for me!!! Then my husband saw it & said you really must shop there too often, how much did you spend? I was relieved it was one of my smaller orders (less than $20)! ;)

I am quite convnced that airline personnel are THE RUDEST people on the face of the planet. I had a problem with American Airlines. My aunt works for them. I was very confident she would help me since I always do nice things for her. She did not help me at all. We do not speak anymore. Unconditional love is most definitely NOT…
Regarding the passengers, the kindness of strangers will ALWAYS win out over family !!

I am so excited to get my new products to scrap my recent cruise. As cruise ports are expanding in central america, I wanted to pass along some suggestions for Belize and Honduras expansions. Some excursions that are offered in this area are ziplining, canopy tours, river cruises and, of course, the beach day (snorkeling, kayaking, beach volleyball, little fun drinks in the sun). You have the best selection and I just wanted to pass along some other suggestions.

I’ve always gotten the BEST customer service when I order from Scrap Your Trip and I’ve recommended you to dozens of people!! I was so happy today when I scrolled through the new items and found a belly dancer die cut! I AM a belly dancer and you are the only place I’ve found anything for a belly dancer. I’ve ordered alot of Egyptian stuff from you but I can’t wait to get some of those belly dancer die cuts!! I find things here that you just won’t see anywhere else!

    Julie,
Been there on the 6 year old boy that needed to go NOW while the light was on. I just told him to go ahead and wet the seat, which he had to do. The flight attendants can then deal with that issue. I did inform them as we left the plane so they weren’t surprised on the turnaround. Unfortunately, there were no boy’s pants available for purchase at ATL, so the second flight seat was wet as well.
Good for you for defending your son’s needs! He’ll remember that and love you for it forever.
And I shop with you just because of the awesome customer service!
    Momtoo,
“There was NO other way to handle this?” What’s your suggestion? I’d really like to know for the future. I fly a lot, and refusing to allow a young mother take her six-year-old son to use the bathroom while parked at the gate has nothing to do with security and everything to do with a power-hungry, unhappy, uncaring individual who’s representing her employer badly.

  • 8. ERIC FIELD&hellip  |  April 1st, 2009 at 9:06 am

Found this week’s newsletter quite interesting. Good for you in naming the guilty party with SWA. A lot of people will complain about something to others but won’t be specific, and you were. Not only is holding it hard on a young child, some of us adults have similar problems. Some of these FAA rules are down right retarded and make no sense, especially when it is sitting at the gate or on the tarmac for extended periods of time. Like the first response says, all the flight attendent was doing was enforcing someone else’s rules, but she did not have to be rude about it, and could of at least been understanding.
Customer Service is all that many companies have to offer any more. That is one reason, along with your selection, that makes shopping at Scrap Your Trip so enjoyable. Thank you as always for being here.

Just wanted to let you know that I just finished my two albums of my Ireland trip of 2007 (700 pictures) and 95% of the embellishments came from your site! Don’t know what I would have done if you didn’t have such a great selection. I’ve turned some of my fellow scrapbooking friends on to your site and just love it! I rarely ever go into a scrapbook store anymore. I just let my fingers do the shopping at scrapyourtrip.com! Great service and selection! You guys rock!

As a former Flight Attendant Casie was doing her job, and doing it correctly. She was following the FAA regulations. By not enforcing them she puts her job on the line. I’m not saying she coudn’t have handled the situation in a different way, but everytime passengers do not follow the regulations it puts the flight attendants job on the line. Please remember when flying there are reasons there are regulations and the reasons is to protect you.

    Julie,
Good Morning! I always look forward to your Wednesday notes, and your adventures. I agree with you, I understand rules, but when it comes to a child exceptions have to be made. The Southwest employee could have had a little more compassion and understanding. There is no excuse for rudeness. She needed to put herself in Logan’s place. I have to say, I just had this conversation with my boss at work yesterday, I am so sick and tired of the pathetic customer service anymore, no one wants to be helpful or go above and beyond for the sake of making people happy. That is why you are so successful, your customer service is by far the best. I too love the personal notes on my invoices, and the fact that you care about your customers and work so hard to bring us the best and most updated products and I just want to tell you again, I appreciate it more than you know.
    Thank you so much,
    Terri
P.S. Good for you in putting your son and his needs first, that is what a mother is suppose to do, and he will always remember that.

    Julie,
I forgot to include this request in my post above, sorry!
If possible, I would love to see some new items for Prom. This is my son’s Senior year, and his last Prom. My other prom pages look similar as there isn’t a lot out there for prom. I would appreciate any creative ideas!
    Thank you,
    Terri

First of all Welcome to Colorado! If you’re still here you can expect another 2 snow storms this week!

Ok, here goes, my first post… I just felt compelled to write. To momtoo, I am disappointed that you could feel this way about a mother’s need to help her very young son. Fortunately you did not have to deal with this type of thing when your son was this age. Unfortunately because of 9/11 our world has changed however, children do not change. We are children’s advocate if we don’t then who will? As a mother of 3 Iwholeheartedly admire the courage of ANY MOTHER willing to do what is right.

Now… I am a new customer and recieved my first order last week. I ordered a few custom pieces and was totally amazed when I received them! Not to mention that the order was personalized with handwritten notes from your staff! I will be going to a Scrapbooking Retreat this weekend and will share this great web-site! Thanks for being dedicated to helping us scrapbook those special moments. One last thing – any hope of getting AFJROTC (Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp – for high school)items?

Thanks for always doing a great job!

  • 14. momtoo&hellip  |  April 1st, 2009 at 11:14 am

Ok be disappointed in me. Like my son have had to go to the bathroom too? Sorry he did – I have walked this walk. A six year old is not – very- young. He is old enough to know that there are laws that are in place.

However, I have walked this walk and seen that in most cases if heads remain even tempered solutions can be found. As the flight attendent who posted here has stated the womans job was on the line. Is it worth getting someone fired so your child can pee? Sorry, I don’t think so. Could the explaination of why you were up have been made in calmer tones? Could the flight attendent been asked to accompany the child while you remain seated? Desperate times call for desperate measures – no plastic bag??????

It sounded like the conversation went downhill really fast and I know it takes two people to have a heated exchange. Believe me, since Sept 11th I have had to deal with a great many number of things – you have no idea. Security and federal laws far superceed a child wetting themselves. I am a big advocate for children – again you have NO idea about my life so please don’t make assumptions. What is right is teaching your children that laws apply to EVERYONE and are put into place for the good of society.

If you want to violate federal laws that is certainly your right but know that there are consequences to those actions. Actually, there have been flights where other people take down fellow flyers for getting out of their seats when they violate that law.

BOTH of you were wrong. You violated a federal law and she violated good customer service. But of the two violating a federal law was worse. It is time to admit that.

  • 15. Brenda Carlson&hellip  |  April 1st, 2009 at 11:16 am

I love the new Scrap Your Trip Photo papers, but I have a hard time imagining how to use them on a layout. Would you ever be able to have someone do a couple layouts using these papers and post them so we can get ideas? Thanks for your consideration.

  • 16. Karen&hellip  |  April 1st, 2009 at 11:32 am

First of all, I agree with the other posters that you have the best customer service and the friendliest, too. I have only ordered twice (so far!) and on the second order there was a handwritten note thanking me for my continued patronage. Nice touch!

As to the airlines, I agree I “luv” Southwest, but Cassie certainly was not representing them well. All she had to do was say, “Well, I can make an exception if you let me take him to the restroom.” That would have solved everything. And unless they want to start stocking childrens clothing on board…….You were absolutely right to insist he be allowed to go. And the shout to through the cabin after he went was just rude. She could have simply said, hey folks, we had a little one who had to go NOW, but we would appreciate it if all you other folks would keep you seats until we take off”. Everybody would have giggled and the problem would be solved.

Thanks for a great website, great products that I never see in shops and great customer service, hmmmm I think I better start looking at those new 248 items!

  • 17. RPDBakker&hellip  |  April 1st, 2009 at 12:09 pm

Scrap Your Trip is my favorite website I buy from. I even got a note on my order from an employee who grew up in the city next to mine! Your selection is awesome! And of course who doesn’t love a sale!

I don’t like flying, the one time I did on Southworst it was horrible. If I can’t get there by car or train or boat I don’t need to go. And as far as the bathroom incident I agree with you Julie. There is nothing worse for a child then to have an accident and in front of so many strangers. Good for you for standing up for him!

  • 18. Gail Brandt&hellip  |  April 1st, 2009 at 12:14 pm

I have to comment on the EXCELLENT customer service rom you guys. I sent in some photos to make cusom paper but was called to say unfortunately the paper turned out blurred – would I like a refund or would I like the paper anyhow. I decided on a refund since I am able to get new photos taken and hopefully those will be clearer for custom paper. Within the hour I had my refund in my Paypal account – that is outstanding service! I also love the personal notes you get on your order – it makes you feel appreciated and that you’re not just a name on the computer. Well done Julie for such an excellent online experience – I love getting the new items to see what I “need”…lol!

  • 19. swaflyer&hellip  |  April 1st, 2009 at 1:48 pm

Thanks for a great website. Your products are fantastic and very well represented. A quick note, as a current flight attendant, I have to agree that she was doing her job. However, we have to use common sense and pick our battles. She could have definitely handled it better and for all of us at SWA, let me thank you for your patronage and it truly is our credo to “do unto others…” I apologize for her rudeness and applaud YOUR continued dedication to excellence in customer service. As a side note…as a scrapper, do you know where I might find a flight attendant sticker, die-cut, something? You have a fabulous travel section, but no FA’s. Thanks:)

    Julie,
I would just like to say FANTASTIC choices from your company. I stumbled upon your website while researching for items to use in my photo/scrapalbum book of our recent trip to Israel/Egypt/Jordan. I had been looking at all the scrapbooking supply places where I live and and nearby, but nobody seemed to havr what I needed. I kept thinking it’s a good thing I kept alot of the brochures and stuff we picked up along the way to use in the book. I decided to try searching online for someone who might have what I needed. I came across your website and got excitied! There was everything I needed and more!
We travel quite a bit and couldn’t believe the selection of items you have for just about any trip you could possibly take. I of course spent a bundlr on my first order and then proceeded to tell my friends about your website. I have shown my daughter and we picked out items for her when I made my order. We are getting ready for a cruise to Alaska (our 2nd there) and can’t wait to return so that I can purchase all the wonderful items you have for cruising, Alaska and the outdoors.
Keep up the grreat selections you have, they are so fabulous!

  • 21. Marilyn&hellip  |  April 1st, 2009 at 3:14 pm

we were at the ScrapExpo in Pleasanton, CA last month and passed the “other” company’s booth that has travel pages and titles. we agree we would “look” but we always buy through your company because of the awesome customer service. keep it up!

  • 22. andrea&hellip  |  April 1st, 2009 at 4:38 pm

    Dear Julie,

Just love the product line at SYT, can’t find some of these items anywhere else BUT here! love the service, too.

I have to comment on the whole plane incident. It seems your harshest critic sites the rule of law, in this case the FAA ruling. However, there is the rule of Nature which supercedes…God has created little boys bladders (and adults too!) to only hold so much for so long…Had your FA been at the top of her game she would have had a better solution to remedy the problem…peeing in a bag in public…right…don’t think that’s it…however, had you encouraged him to just wet himself and the seat, the airline would have lost $$ on pre-booked seats they could not seat either from the wet or the smell that would affect the seats around it, and the passengers travelling with you would have been just as miserable.

It was a situation where the schedule had been interrupted by one passengers health needs…therefore the health needs of others including your son who may have needed a “pit stop” should have been addressed and taken into consideration. With an indefinite time frame of being on the ground, it really shouldn’t have been unreasonable to make allowances for those issues. I really would think that they should already have a plan in place, but apparently not.

I’ve watched Southwest’s Airline show on TLC many times…it seems to me that the staff usually try to accomodate the best they can in every given situation and have seen many go “above and beyond the call” to help out. Clearly there was no grace given here as the situation warranted.

Everyone’s schedule was disturbed to accomodate one passenger…and unless I miss my guess each of those people leaving and entering the plane to help that person were also in violation of the “remain in your seat while the light is on” policy and yet…

I wonder if the Security guards at the check points would have an issue with you carrying an empty coffee can on board for those emergencies that might happen along the way?

  • 23. Pam&hellip  |  April 2nd, 2009 at 5:07 am

Another great release of new product again this week. I just wished the Australia dollars exchange rate with the US dollar was better and that the postage to Australia was a lot cheaper and then I could put an order in every few weeks. I love to travel overseas and there is nowhere else but scrap your trip for me to buy my paper and die cuts you always have just what I want so why would anyone want to look anywhere else any way.

  • 24. Marianne Doucette&hellip  |  April 2nd, 2009 at 8:08 am

Thanks for the honesty about the plane trip….I’d do the same thing. It’s a shame we have to “prepare” ourselves to deal with others. In regards to your business, it’s the greatest! I’ve been scrapping for over 16 years and always check your Web site first and rarely have to go somewhere else. I host a beach retreat twice a year and start with your site for my next theme idea. Ironically, my next one just happens to be Travel. Lucky me. There’s just one problem…..so many choices…..what’s a girl to do!?

Keep up the good work from all of us in South Carolina!

  • 25. Nancy&hellip  |  April 2nd, 2009 at 5:25 pm

My son went to college in Ohio and played football for them and I wish I could find more guy things for college and friends. I don’t have very much luck on that. I was happy to see that I could have custom paper made and I thank you for that.

    PS I love your website.

  • 26. Patrice&hellip  |  April 3rd, 2009 at 3:13 pm

You have such an interesting marketing angle. I am inundated daily with emails and advertisements from other companys. If I’m not looking for anything from that store, I delete it as quickly as it appears in my inbox. But, from some reason, I never delete yours. If I don’t have time to read it, I save it to another day, even if I’m not intending on purchasing anything. I enjoy your short stories and anecdotes. This one was especially touching, as I constantly say that to the core, the majority of people are good people.

I am a loyal customer of Scrap Your Trip. You have some of the best collections out there. Keep up the good work!
