What is the age where you stop caring what other people think of you?  Whatever age it is, I think I’m getting close to it.

Two years ago, I took my daughter on a business trip to Ft. Lauderdale (that’s why it’s "our" place).  Ft. Lauderdale is the middle of the "Gold Coast" of Florida…home to lots of money and lots of beautiful people.  I can vividly remember not wanting to go to the pool with her because I didn’t want to go anywhere in my bathing suit.

I had just read an article written by Martha Beck in "O" magazine about “so what?”  The jist of the article was that while we think there is a spotlight on us whenever we go anywhere or walk into a room, most people are too preoccupied with their own “stuff” to really notice or care what others are doing.  And if they do, so what!

However, this past weekend’s trip to Ft. Lauderdale was quite a bit different.  It’s still the land of beautiful people, but this time, I just didn’t care as much.  I spent the majority of the time we were there with my hair up in a ponytail…no makeup…in the pool, having fun with my daughter, not really caring about my jiggly thighs as I walked around the pool.  It felt wonderful!

“The Talk” with Lauren went well, but it was rather anti-climatic.  “You brought me all the way to Ft. Lauderdale to tell me this?  You couldn’t have told me this at home?”  I told her that I wanted it to be a special weekend for her, uninterrupted by her little brother, and that when my Mom told me, I had a hard time looking at my Dad for awhile without thinking “Daddy put what where?”

Up until that moment, it had all been technical and although she said she understood, I could tell she hadn’t put two and two together.  But with the mention of Daddy, I saw the light bulb go on and she sputtered “Daddy put…Daddy did…That’s GROSS!”  That was the reaction I expected. :-)

The expansion is almost done and going well, especially since Lani and I are in Boston this week and not having to deal with it.  We are here for the Internet Retailer Convention, learning how we can make a better shopping experience for you.  A new and much better site search is on its way, to help you find what you’re looking for out of our 10,000+ products.  We are also talking with designers/developers about redesigning our site to make it even more functional (and prettier).  What improvements would you like to see?  How can we make it even better?  Please leave us your ideas on the blog.

We’ve talked to Yahoo since we’ve been here and great news…you get to start a brand new wishlist!  Unfortunately, the database that holds all the wishlist items became corrupted.  Fortunately, they were able to recover about 600 wishlists…I hope one of them is yours. :-)

We have over 900 new items on 25% clearance this week!  But don’t put any of them on your wishlist, because we will not reordering any of these items, so when they are sold out, they are gone for good.

Click here to see all the great deals:  www.scrapyourtrip.com/clearance.html

Congrats to Alice Mickelsen of Colorado!  You are the winner of last weeks’s "Free Order" drawing and the entire amount of your order will be refunded!

As always, thanks for your business.

I am sorry that the wish list was destroyed. Yes one of them was mine but I am relieved to know that I wasn’t going crazy. At my age, that’s a little bit scary when something disappeared and I could swear that it was there that last time I looked. LOL

    Thanks for the warning.

I don’t normally look at the blogs so someone has probably already requested this but here goes anyway. It would be nice if there was an option to remove items from the wishlist when placing an order for those items. If that’s not feasible then a separate checkbox so that multiple items can be removed at a time. That should be feasible since it’s already there for picking multiple items from the checklist to order. If there’s a way to clean items out of the checklist already hopefully someone will reply to this blog and enlighten me.

I’m also relieved to know that I wasn’t going crazy when I saw only 2 items in my wishlist and knew that I had put a lot more in there.

I’d love to see a better way of showing off the double-sided papers. I ended up buying double what I needed because I didn’t realize the paper was the flip side of what I ordered. If they could be shown in the same image, that would be great.

Thanks for such a great website. I look forward to your weekly updates as much for the “lettervfrom Julie” portion as the “what’s new in the store” portion.

    Hi
It would be nice if the website had an add to wish list button next to the add to cart button on the main list. . . . right now you have to click the item and get it alone on the screen before you can add it to the wish list. Another convenient thing would be to have an add to wish list checkbox and button in the cart itself so that if when you see all your items price added together is more than expected you can select a few and put them in your wish list for next time.

Love the website! I would like to see a “back to top”
button at the bottom of the pages, instead of having to
scroll all the way back up.

My wish list was also one of the lost ones but at least am glad to know that I am not “losing’ it. I would like to see a better description of the products if that would be possible.

Love your site–Keep up the great work.

I really love your site. It is uncomplicated and intuitive – want travel – get travel. l love how you match cardstock for us and keep things organized by date as well as topic. That makes it easier to find when a couple releases have gone by and you know you saw something recently but can’t remember the exact date. It sure makes it better to look through a couple hundred items instead of a couple thousand! I would like to be able to place mulitple items into my cart at the same time. That is, if I’m looking at a collection of paper and stickers etc, I would like to be able mark them and add them simultanteously instead of one at a time. I am fairly certain that can be done from the newly added grouping but I am unsure if it is possible in all areas of the site. You may want a prettier site but I love the uncluttered classy look it has now. Just my 2 cents about the looks – good luck! Julie

I really enjoy using your website to shop. It is straightforward and simple-looking, so it does not detract from the colorful papers, etc. I agree that I would like to see the flip-side of the double-sided papers; I have had situations where after seeing the reverse side I wish I had ordered more in order to expand to a two-page spread. Also, when I have placed an item in my cart, I often have trouble going back to where I was before selecting the item–I end up at the top, which isn’t that big of a deal….

You have by far the best selection and a site that it is easy to navigate. Keep up the great job!

I love so many things about your site and many of them have already been listed by others. The only thing that I have come across that is frustrating, and again has been mentioned by others, is that I would love a check box next to each item that would allow me to either send multiple items to my wish list or to delete multiple items when my cart is too full. This happens every time I look at your site for fun or to order and I have to go through the process one item at a time, several times, before I am ready to place an order. Very time consuming. Thanks for such a wonderful selection of quality products and friendly service.

To add on to what others have posted:

I find that I like the plain paper best (although, from time to time, I do purchase themed paper). Up until now, I’ve purchased plain colored paper at the local scrapbook store (Archivers). However, the package of colored paper included colors that I’ve found that I don’t use. So, I was curious if you had collections of blue-toned, or purple-toned, papers.

So, one day, I was searching for types of plain paper on your website. I found searching for paper cumbersome. It would have been nice to have had a drop down menu to select for a color grouping, such as: Paper> plain > blue tones. The 2nd selction could include patterned, themed, etc. The 3rd selection could include, if plain, the different color groups.

Julie, I agree with Julie in comment 8, at least on the new product page please leave it clean and easy like it is now. One of the things I love about ordering from you is going to new item page on Wednesday and being able to scroll down through ALL of it and not change the page. I have some online site I will not shop at because the have only 9-15 items on a page and you have to look at 35 pages to see it all :-( .
I also agree with previous comments – would love to be able to clean up my wish list. I often place an order and then realize one or more of the items was in my wishlist and I forgot to order from there.
Comment 4 from Maggie – great idea!
On the double sided paper it would help if at least they shots of front and back are side by side. I do know to check by the item numbers to see if there are half of a double paper, but it is annoying when a whole collection of double paper is shown and they aren’t side by side – constantly scrolling back up and down to see what other side looks like.
Chris comment 5 also great idea back to top button!
Site is already pretty Julie. Change colors etc if you want but please leave it as clean and easy to navigate as it is now. Judy

I just received my first order from you today and was so excited. I kept following the “tracking” information all week so I could determine if it was coming soon. Ordered on Friday, received on Wednesday in Wyoming, Michigan. I just love the stuff and will surely order again. I ordered paper and other stuff for our third Amtrak trip we are taking in September – east this time. I hadn’t seen any of the things I ordered at any of our local craft stores – and believe me I check them all often. The paper is absolutely gorgeous. Can’t wait to go and come back so I can start on my photos. We are going Niagara Falls; Boston; Bar Harbor, Maine; Conway, New Hampshire; Burlington, Vermont; Albany and then back home – some by train, some by rental car. You will definitely see orders from me again. I found the website very easy to navigate and title blocks were easily understandable. Thanks for making my day.

When I find myself doing the same thing over and over again, I know the website can be improved. You have a great strip of “new” items that run down the right side of the site that presents itself to you as you view the theme headings. If find I often “click” on one of these items only to realize that I’ll need to find it under one of the theme headings in order to purchase it.

It’s probably my pea-brain, but often I can’t locate or remember, so I don’t order what I had been busy clicking on = a lost sale! Hope this can be changed.

Love your site – I order frequently and am amazed that even here in So Cal where we have lots of stores, I keep coming back to your site and excellent customer service! Keep up the good work – you have some great staff members!

Oh, and by the time you’re in your mid 40’s you’ll be wondering what’s wrong with people when they don’t realize what a great person you are – it’s a great day when you suddenly realize that you don’t have to worry about gaining approval from others. Very liberating and it comes only with age! Whoohoo for wrinkles – there is nothing sweeter than smile lines around ones eyes … says a lot about your personality!

like the site but, i hope your daughter doesn’t see/ read your blog. she maybe devastated to know that you told millions. that you two had the “talk”. but then, as i would embarass may girls when they were teens, that was my payback for all their crappy diapers and other messes i cleaned up when they were little. that now a mothers right is to embarass them as teens in public or better in front of their friends.
hi / bye, a happy scrapper

Hope you’re having a great time in Boston! Welcome to my city! I actually used to work for an internet retailer in Boston – maybe I would have been at that convention if I hadn’t quit last month! I hope you write about it in your next blog :) I love checking my inbox on Wednesdays.

My wishlist got deleted BUT I just placed an order and got everything! I thought you guys had finally started wiping out wishlists once we ordered but now I know it just got deleted. Anyway, that would be my suggestion (that I think a couple other people had too). Also, it would be awesome if there were a better display of out of stock items. My last couple of orders when I looked at my receipt a couple things couldn’t ship :( I just usually add all the items on my wishlist to my cart so maybe that’s where it needs to be better displayed as I haven’t looked at the individual sku for a couple weeks. Otherwise, love the site! :)

First of all, check out Maggie in #4 – she is right on! I think the ’search’ needs major help – whatever you put in there results in a verbal message appearing rather than scrapbooking items on that subject. I will weigh in on the wish list as well – I would love to be able to send everything I like to the wish list, then go back through it and click one box, then at the bottom, say something like ’send all to order’ and do it all at once. It is very bulky and hard to navigate as it is. However, since I have been ordering from you about 12-15 times yearly for quite some time, I guess I manage to get around any of the obstacles! You guys are fabulous, I tell all my scrapbooking friends about your site – they are getting sick of my telling them to check you out! And I am a consultant for a major scrapbook supply company, but I order much more from you than I do from my own company because you have such a fabulous selection. Keep up the good work, and don’t mess up the website too much!

I lost my wishlist too, so glad to hear there is an explanation. Anyway, my recommendation for the website is to be able to come back to where you were perusing when you have gone to look at a single item (to see the bigger picture) then hit the back button to go back to the big list of items (say the list of items on sale). Right now the back button takes you back to the top of the list and you have to scroll down to where you were.

I love SYT! Your website is easy to use. I can easily find whatever I need under the appropriate catagories.
The one section I stopped using though is the Die Cuts.
It takes so long to download that my computer freezes up and I have to reboot every time. It would be great if you could find a way to break the Die cuts into separate catagories like ‘Military Die
Cuts’ or ‘International Die Cuts,’ etc. I like your die cuts, the quality is the best, but I just don’t look at your complete line anymore.
