It’s Friday!  It’s Friday!  It’s Friday!

It feels like it’s been a long week (probably has something to do with getting up at 5am every morning!) :-)

Thank you to everyone for your support and well wishes in my new fitness quest.  I’m proud to say that I lifted a total of 11,020 pounds yesterday and have lost a total of 1.6 pounds this week!  I have also been able to drastically reduce the amount of food I’m eating.  It’s amazing how little food it actually takes to fill us up, if we pay attention.

Here’s my trick:  The moment I think to myself, "I’m starting to feel full", I take one more bite and stop eating.  If you take more than one or two bites, then the brief feeling of fullness goes away and doesn’t come back until you are too full, and that’s obviously too late.  I’m telling you…my stomach shrunk fast and I’m eating WAY less than I used to.  I heard that the key to getting fit was 80% what you eat and 20% exercise.  Don’t know if it’s true, but trying to get better on all fronts.

One of the comments on the blog really resonated with me:  " I decided this was the year to take care of ME…I will do it because it’s for ME not my kids or my husband."

Somehow along the way, selfish became a bad word, with lots of negative connatations.  But what if we used the word self-care instead?  Or self-preservation?  Don’t we all deserve to take care of ourselves and allow ourselves the gift of time to do that without feeling or being labeled "selfish"?

So, to Dawn on the blog…congrats on this being the year to take care of you.  I’m right there with ya’!

Good luck, Julie! If I can do it, you can, too. For me, getting fit and losing weight was 90% mental — making a true commitment to do it. No more excuses, no more procrastination, no more self-defeating behavior. The last 10% was eating healthy, exercise, and, YES! a personal trainer. I lost 30 pounds last year and it’s still gone today. I’m working on my last 20 pounds to get to my goal.

Keep us posted and keep up the good work!

Conragtulations! You are on the right track. At 68 years
young I was looking at a 10 year anniversary cancer-free (lung cancer) & decided I too, wasn’t doing enough for me. I started walking ( 2miles a day) & watching my food intake. At 18 pounds lost I decided to do more. I now do the walking & work out 3 times a week at Curves. That works things besides legs. I feel better than I have in 20 years & fit in some pretty cute jeans.
It is all about me for the moment. Keep up the good worwork. It’s definitely worth it! Working out & scrappin’…………….

Congrat Julie! First off I really enjoy reading the emails each week. It must be our age. I’m 42 as well. This year was the year I decided to put myself first for a change. Its like your writing blogs about me. :) I also to took a look at people around me. I wanted to be inshape. This year I did that. I lost 22 lbs not by being on a diet. But mentally paying attention to how much I ate. I also started making better choices with my food. It worked. I feel 100% better. I’m living life to the fullest each day. I hope you have lots of success :)

I’m heading to Orlando in August I hope to visit my favorite scrapbooking store for the first time. :)

That’s awesome Julie, you are hot anyway but this is inspirational. You are damn right about self preservation. Pride is not always a bad thing and not owning it leads to bigger problems than being sometimes perceived as selfish :) Rock on!

I just discovered this site! What a treat! I ordered a mountain of materials to scrapbook (for the first time) my trip to Ireland in the fall. This is a dream vacation come true and being able to find such beautiful materials to document this exciting trip was an unexpected joy. I received my order yesterday and the internet photos do not do the materials justice. First class all the way. And quick to arrive. Thanks for the quality service. Best of luck on your transformation. It is no easy task, getting there is a small part of the battle, maintaining it (for me) is the hardest! Good luck from the bottom of my heart!

We’ve all heard it a million times before… put on your own oxygen mask first. Keep up the excellent work!

I was so happy to read your blog Julie on your reasons to take care of yourself. For 13 years I have taken care of my children and put myself last. I have decided that I too am going to be a little selfish and take care of myself. It is time to start living.
Thanks for letting us read your stories–it motivates some of us to do the same.

So many of us are right there with you. I went back to Weight Watchers (I’m a Lifetime member) and have been working on increasing my activity. I’m down 9.6lbs. and am still at it. For me it really is 90% attitude. When I’m motivated it doesn’t seem like its all that hard to eat right and exercise, but if I lose my motivation it all goes downhill fast. I find that if I give myself the right messages (self talk) it helps. “I really like to exercise”, “I enjoy eating healthy and feeling good”, etc. You get the idea. Even if I don’t believe the statement when I say it, I still keep saying it to myself and usually it sticks with me and I do better than when I give myself negative messages, like how deprived I am when I can’t eat whatever and however much I feel like at the moment. Anyway, didn’t mean to ramble, just really relating to the whole healthy, taking care of me thing.
