*****Sorry for the delay in the "Wednesday" e-mail!  Our e-mail company’s servers weren’t working yesterday.*****

Do you have any idea what you are really capable of?  I mean REALLY capable of?

As many of you know, I started at the gym at the YMCA about a month ago.  You got two free training sessions when you joined, to teach you how to use the equipment.  So I worked with one of the Wellness
Directors, and he showed me how to use the FitLinxx circuit equipment.  Since I am so motivated to get my body into a healthier place, I was really pushing myself. At least I thought I was…

Then last week I started with my personal trainer, Matt.  He’s this 25 year old from Alabama that calls me "ma’am".  I am going with he calls me that because he’s a "southern boy", not because of my age.  :-)

Firstly, I meet him at the gym at 5:30.  That means I have to get up at 4:45.  4:45 comes REALLY early in the morning!  One of the good things about this is that it has broken me of my "hitting the snooze alarm five times" habit.

When we started last Monday at 5:30, by 5:45, I thought I was going to die.  Or throw up.  Or both.  Matt kept getting me cold, wet towels to put around my neck and having me sit under the fan.  "Give me two weeks" he said.  "Two weeks from now you are going to laugh at how hard this was for you today!"  If you say so.

By 2:00 that day, I could barely get out of my chair.  At one point I was trying to get up and muttering under my breath and Laurie and Orita, our wonderful Customer Care Representatives, heard me and were laughing at my struggle to get out of my chair.

But yesterday morning, I bench pressed a 30 pound weight bar 45 times.  That’s 1,350 pounds!

In just this short time, here is what I have learned.  I am capable of SO MUCH MORE THAN I THOUGHT I WAS!

See, I thought I was giving it my all when I was working by myself.  But with Matt, my arms are shaking…my muscles are burning…I think to myself "I can’t do this"…and he says "Okay, give me five more."  And I do.

So this has really got me thinking.

How many other areas of my life do I think I’m giving it all I’ve got?  How many other areas am I also capable of so much more?  Are there other areas of my life that I am limiting myself by my thinking?  "I can’t do this", but I really could?  Are there other areas that I give up before I reach my potential?

How do you figure that out?  How do you have a "personal trainer" for your life, to push you into being the person you are capable of being?  Better yet, how do you do that for yourself?  It is possible?

If anyone has any ideas or stories to tell, please post them on the blog!

Keep up the good work, both in the gym and SYT! We really can do more than we think. I’ve always walked, played tennis, lifted weights off and on and a couple of years ago while at the gym I saw a sign advertising a small triathlon, Rocketchix. I immediately made the decision to train for it. I was so out of my comfort zone that it wasn’t funny. I hired a swim coach, got up to swim at 5:30 in the morning, ran on the treadmill, bicycled in the gym and followed the immediate level training schedule. My husband, a marathon runner, was shocked. I finished in 1:34 and was a happy camper.
I was 54 and my goal was just to finish. It was very
    rewarding!

    Hi Julie-
I learned a valuable lesson of being capable of so much more about 4 years ago.

I had begun dating a wonderful man, who will be my husband next May, and I had a job. Sounds pretty typical, right? Not so much, I worked as a Banquet Manager at a small hotel. I was working 7 days week at least 18-20 hours a day and thinking I was fine. My wonderful man took this in stride for almost a year of missed vacation, birthday parties, cookouts etc. He finally sat me down and asked me if I wanted to continue our reationship, since it seemed I only had time for work.

He knew that if I culd find a job that was less demanding that I could be capable of being and doing so much more. God love him, he stuck by me when I quit my job, and the 3 months it took me to find another one. 3 years later we are still together and I have a job that allows me to take a vacation, attend birthday parties and cookouts. I now have a balance in my life and know that he will always remind me of how much I am capable of.

Julie, Thank you for your wonderful insights into this thing we call life.

    Have a great day
    Cathy

I love getting your emails Julie! They really make me think!

About doing and being so much more–often my 15-year-old daughter is willing to do things I wouldn’t have even thought of (good things like going into NYC to feed and clothe the homeless in the middle of the night!). I go along as a chaperone and find I can do so much more than I thought!

My friend Allie is my “personal trainer” for my spiritual life. She scooped me up when my Mom died 8 years ago-just by asking me over for lunch. She saw that I was just a “pew warmer” & that the Lord had a lot more for me to do. I am now a mature Christian & make Jesus my first priority. I have a ministry at my church-making & delivering welcome bags ,to new move ins ,about our church. My favorite verse from the Bible is- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! The most important thing is to not be “religious”-Jesus did not want empty prayers or rituals-just a relationship with Him. Read your Bible- the New Testament first if easier.

Julie The trip to the gym story is so inspiritual and so what I needed to hear I am also doing the get healthy thing since I have finally found out what is wrong with me and why I have not felt well for so long and I am changing that. I have a glutten allergy, adrenal fatigue and sensitivity to dairy and now that I am changing my diet it is blowing me away how much better I feel. I have lots of pounds to lose but for the first time in a long time my body feels like everything inside is working like it should and I have litterally never felt that way ever. It is really hard to describe to somebody. Definately an entire new world for me. Also as you know I am a partner in a newly formed LLC called Grand Strand Scrappers doing day, evening and weekend crops in the Myrtle Beach area and what you wrote was also in that regards so what I needed to hear because it is disappointing when you work hard to get the word out and the response is so much less than what you hoped for. You, your staff and your company is something I am so glad I found so keep up keeping us motivated we all need that today more than ever. Dawn S. Myrtle Beach, SC

I thought there was a lot a couldn’t do, then my husband died. If he could come back now, he’d see a different person.

The way you talk about the gym is how I feel. Feeling like you are dying when the trainer says give me 5 more and you litterly fee like your arms and/or legs are falling off is how I feel each week I meet with Joseph, my trainer. I had my one month evaluation last week and within one month I had lost an overall of 7.5 inches! Joseph was impressed but said that means I have to work harder. It does get easier each time and if he wasn’t there pushing me I would probably stop at 5 or 10. Keep up the work even if 545 is early. you can do it!!! I’m the one that joined the gym for me, not my kids or hubby.
