"For years I’ve noticed that the universe speaks to us in whispers. If we ignore the whispers, we get pebbles of warning.  If we still don’t pay attention, we get bricks of problems, and if we’re really hardheaded, eventually the entire brick wall comes crashing down. This is a pattern I’ve seen repeated so often in every area of life that I know for sure when you don’t pay attention to the pebbles, it’s just a matter of time before the bricks show up." Oprah Winfrey, "O" Magazine, December 2008.

How do you hear the whisper?  I mean, we all hear it, but how do we LISTEN to it?

A dear friend of mine has been going through something this week and I want to share it in the hopes that it will help someone listen to the whisper.

She hadn’t been feeling well since school let out.  Stomach problems…bloated feeling…belly starting to grow…numbness in her legs.  When her brother, a doctor in another state, finally convinced her to go to the doctor, they admitted her to the hospital directly from her doctor’s appointment.  She just had surgery to remove a 7-8 pound tumor from her abdomen and she starts chemo as soon as she has recovered.  Please keep her and her husband and daughter in your thoughts.

So why do we ignore the whisper?  We know it’s there.  Especially us women.  It’s called women’s intuition for a reason.  Isn’t that intuition the whisper?

Sometimes I think it’s because we don’t believe in ourselves.  We may be the only one who feels that way, and if everyone else has a different opinion, then we can’t possibly be right in the face of all the other people who think something else.

But mostly I think its fear.  Fear that we may be right.  And maybe if you ignore it long enough, it will go away.  But doesn’t that usually end up as a brick upside the head to get your attention?

The above quote was from Oprah’s "What I Know For Sure" column in her magazine.  Here’s what I know for sure:  The fear is always much worse than reality.  "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself-nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance" according to FDR in his first inaugural address.

I love the second part of this quote.  "nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror…"  Boy have I felt that at times in my life!  Somehow, most of my fears end up with me as a bag lady, homeless and unable to provide for my children.

So what do you do?  For me, I try to stay present and in the moment.  It’s something I’ve really been working on over the past few years.  Because in this moment right now, I am fine.  And whatever comes up…in the moment that it happens…I will have the strength to get through it and I will still be fine.

So, my dear friend, live in the moment…moment by moment…and don’t let the "nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror" paralyze your needed efforts to advance through whatever is coming next.

On a much lighter note, I have good news and bad news about my new "get healthy" quest.  I have already gone down a size!  My daughter, Lauren and I were at the mall over the weekend and I have gone from a medium shirt to a small and size 8 jeans to a 6!  The bad news is that my trainer, Matt, is moving to England in three weeks. :-(   He is young and in love and following a girl. :-) Happy for him, sad for me.  So, the search for a new trainer begins.

It’s Christmas in July time!  We have lots of new Christmas embellishments and stickers from EK Success and you can get them at 15% off this week.  In fact, you can get 15% off your entire order, because we having a Christmas in July sale!  Just enter coupon code JOLLYJULY at checkout for a 15% discount with no minimum purchase.  (Coupon code expires, Friday, July 24 at 11:59 pm ET.  Coupon can not be used on previous orders.  Only one coupon code can be used per order.)

I always enjoy reading your emails, but the one today hit home for me! Thank you so much. I have always felt that God speaks to you in different ways and sometimes it is a whisper and sometime it is a scream! ha! But thanks for the words above, living in the now is very hard sometimes!!
And Congrats on your weight loss!! I have been working out for months with no weight loss!! Not sure what I am doing wrong but congrats to you!! :)

You asked if there was anything we’d like you to keep your eye out for at the trade show, so here’s my little wish list:

IndyCar racing stuff–>much different than Nascar

Different amateur racing stuff–>my boyfriend will be racing Formula Ford next summer, so I’m keeping an album to cover the car being fixed up and then his racing next year.

Dating stuff–>I’m keeping a scrapbook of our dating (5 1/2 months now!) and most of the stuff I find is scattered amongst Love, Romance, Engagment, Wedding, and Anniversary. It’d be nice to find some things that aren’t as mushy and girly. Also some things that pertain to online dating and long distance relationships.

Sports–>I’ve noticed there’s not a lot of stuff offered for professional sports teams or if there is there’s only a couple of teams to choose from. :( So, a little more variety would be a big plus.

Michigan–>Our local scrapbook store closed and along with it all of our wonderful Michigan destination stickers, papers, and die cuts/titles. There were things for Greenfield Village to Traverse City to Mackinac to Meijer Garden to Hell to Frankenmuth to Sault Ste Marie, and points in-between.

Thank you for taking all of our wish lists into consideration! Have fun at the trade show!

Once again your email speaks volumes…….I will be sharing with friends.

Would love to see some “Dog Agility” stuff hit the market! It’s a very popular sport among dog enthusiasts and I’m frankly surprised that no one has offered this.

If you have some pull, maybe you could put a bug in someone ear?

    Thanks for your great products!

It would be nice to see Homecoming and Prom themed
papers and stickers suitable for the guys. Everything I saw was for the girls.

Okay. I flet the brick! I’m calling the doctor right now. Thank you!

I had gastric bypass surgery a few months ago so working out, exercising, eating right, etc. are all a part of my lifelong daily routine now as well. Would like you to keep your eyes out for exercise-type, healthy living(?), weight loss, diet, etc. stuff. I know Karen Foster has a new set of exercise stickers that are nice. Also, high school class reunion stuff. Thank you.

  • 10. Terri Brewster&hellip  |  July 22nd, 2009 at 9:55 am

    Julie,
Thanks for the reminder, I have always said the pebble first, then the rock and finally the brick. I have lived my life trying to always be aware of what God is trying to tell me, however sometimes I am so determined to do it my way, and the brick is no fun. But the life lessons we learn from those hopefully brings us back to listening. Now to a different topic. You always do an amazing job of listening to your clients, and bringing us the best scrapbooking has to offer. I have a suggestion related to the website.
It would make life easier if we could add to our wishlist from the main screen. For example, when we go to the link you send in our weekly e-mails, it would be nice to put in the number we want and when you get to the bottom of the page, click add to wish list, along with add to cart. It can be time consuming to open each item and then add to the wishlist. Sometimes I am going through the new items quickly trying to get to my daily tasks and I think I will go back and look and I never get to it. Just a thought.
Have a great time at CHA
    Terri

I would really like to see more stuff on running or marathons. I see a lot for track and field, but not much for marathon runners. Please keep a look out for that!
    Thanks,
    Sandy

Don’t ignore the whispers. Even though you think you know what they’re whispering. I thought I did. A couple of months ago I started experiencing symptoms of what I thought was the beginning of menopause. You know how you listen to others and judge your own experiences from theirs?
I contacted my Doctor. He prescribed 10 days of provera, a hormone that would make the bleeding stop. However it began again in two days. We waited a couple of weeks and repeated the precription. Still it didn’t work. In the mean time I had my yearly check up and my pap smear came back normal. I thought all was well. Isn’t that how we feel? Pap smear is normal, so all is well. But, I was still bleeding. He then suggested an ultrasound. During the ultrasound a small pollup was spotted. On June 23rd I had a D and C. He thought this would take care of all problems and it should have under normal circumstances. However his offfice called me on that Friday wanting me to come in. I thought it was strange because it wasn’t time for my post-op visit. The pathology report had returned and I had endometrium cancer. We then scheduled a total hysterectomy. The cancer was contained in the uterus and no other cancer cells were found. I thank God I didn’t wait until the brick wall fell. I would have died of cancer thinking all along it was the beginnings of menopause. I know this is quite long but if my story can help just one other it’s worth the lengh.

You email really hit home to me too. Last Wed I had weird pains (whispers). By Fri I had a few bumps that I passed off as pimples (pebbles). Then by Sat it had spread to a rash which I thought was poison ivy (stones). Then Sun. someone mentioned Shingles so I promptly went on the internet and everything it listed I had (brick). So I want to tell everyone who had Chicken Pox when they were young, that 9 out of 10 of you WILL GET Shingles and it’s no fun. The earier you get to the docs the better – within 72 hours of the rash. Some get over it in 2-4 weeks, but those who wait too long have complications and nerve pain which can last for years. I wish someone wound have warned me earlier. Be well!

  • 14. Stephanie&hellip  |  July 22nd, 2009 at 1:28 pm

Women are always so busy we put off taking care of ourselves. Another thing is when we are in situations we don’t want to bother anyone or hurt anyone’s feelings. When the hair on the back of your neck stands up or you get that “whisper” MOVE!!! It may save your life. God didn’t give us these warning signals because He had spare parts.

  • 15. Anna&hellip  |  July 22nd, 2009 at 2:11 pm

Can you look out for more Canadian travel stuff? I need a small-ish little title for Montreal and Nova Scotia but I don’t see a lot of province specific stuff on this site currently. So that would be great!!!

  • 16. Donna Harris&hellip  |  July 22nd, 2009 at 2:25 pm

A sign in my chiropractor’s office has stuck with me for just YEARS!
“The 5 most dangerous words: Maybe it will go away.”
Thank you for spreading such an important message more globally than most of us ever could!
    God bless you!

  • 17. Donna Harris&hellip  |  July 22nd, 2009 at 2:35 pm

P.S. -Oh yeah! I forgot! Once again, really in need of embellishments that touch on the Civil War: canteens, brogans (boots/shoes), drums, A-frame tents, stacked muskets (a.k.a. Kentucky swing – muskets stacked together like a teepee), hoop skirts, etc. Sure would make those re-enacting pages more interesting! Thanks and have a nice time at CHA! (they won’t know the new, skinnier you!)

For the convention I would like more country specific items. Right now I am doing India and there is not much anywhere. I travel a lot and realize that places like Antartica just aren’t going to have anything. But places like India I am surprised. Also Jordan is quite popular now and there was nothing but a lot for the Egypt part of the trip.

I would like to see more Renaissance Fair and community festival/fair things. This year we are staying close to home for summer vacation and are taking in the local fairs and festivals. Keep looking for archery too! Your selection has grown, but the pages keep coming. Lastly, a ranch visit and summer day camps (not camping) are on my list of pages that need help.

    Thanks for asking!

I’ve never blogged efore but after reading your e-mail I had to. The phrase “nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror” really hit home for me although not due to a health problem. Thank goodness. My youngest son is a crew chief on a Blackhawk helicopter flying Medic evacuations stationed in Afghanastan. If I would let myself be held hostage to that fear every day for the rest of his tour, I would be a blubbering idoit. As was written, in this moment, I’m fine and can get through whatever else might come. Right now I know he and his “Army family” are safe and being so are keeping all of us here at home safe too, which makes his father and I very proud.

    My wish list:
    Bridal and Baby Shower
    BMX
Professional Team (sports – football and baseball)
    Grandchildren
    Mustang – the car
    Retirement
And most important – would there be a way that we could forward cards to you for your friend. Think of all of the prayers and well wishes she could receive from all over the country or the world for that matter.

Convention wish list: Swim, water, lifeguard!!! My son swims year round (high school and a swim team) and his first job is now lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons…blue subtle designed paper please:)!!! I can’t wait until he goes to college…hopefully its colors won’t be blue!

Prayers for your friend and her family

julie, I look forward to seeing scrapyourtrip.com pop up on my email. Why? Honestly it’s not so much to see what’s on sale or the newest products. I love reading your entries. I really enjoy them and sometimes I find myself thinking “I know her” because you are so personable in your writings. Thanks for sharing.

I work at a scrapbook store in TX and when we don’t have the unique papers a customer is looking for we often refer them to your website.

I will be at CHA also – we may pass each other and never know it, unless fate causes us to trip over each other and if you’re clumsy like me spill iced tea all over each other. :)

Thanks for sharing your heart with others – we should all do that more I think. Blessings, Lorie

Are there any papers or embellishments out there for the Camp Fire organization? Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are well represented, but I haven’t been able to find a thing for Camp Fire, which both of my daughters participated in.

I am praying for your friend…very inspiring email, thks for sharing with us.
Convention wish list…You have great travel stuff, but would really like to find flight attendant and pilot stickers, embellishments, die-cuts, etc. There is nothing out there for us and alot of us scrapbook. Would appreciate any help and/or pull you have out there with the vendors! Thanks and congrats on the new improved you! :)

Please look for stitched papers by PRIMA. I saw them in a scrap magazine and cannot find them anywhere. They have real stitching on them and the colors are gorgeous. Thanks and have a great time.

I wish the best to your friend for a speedy recovery. I almost didn’t pay attention until the brick wall was about half-way built. Like Marla #12 I was having problems and was just going to let my primary care doctor do what he thought best, but things continued to become an issue so I spoke with his Phys Asst and she referred me to a gyno for an ablation. Turned out I had endometrial cancer. Luckily, like Marla’s, mine was confined to the uterus and no further treatment (just check-ups) has been necessary. I shudder to think what would’ve happened if I hadn’t kept pushing.

As for what sort of products I’d like you to keep an eye out for at CHA…cat stuff. You have tons of dog items and so few decent (NOT CUTESY…don’t want cutesy) cat stuff. Also, zoo stuff that, again, isn’t cutesy (or glittery). I’m an adult with no kids and I enjoy visiting the zoo and I don’t like cutesy stuff.

Some other ideas for the wish list: Boating communities such as sailing clubs, fishing clubs, boat docks, rental areas etc. Lots of small sail stickers or power boats, but not so much working or “play” stuff! Also, some cookbook stickers that are not really small and not baking. Friends are scrapping family recipe cookbooks and having hard time finding many stickers. I agree re: pro sports teams and more tailgating too! I know there is probably a lot more, but escapes me at the moment. Thanks and happy vendor meet and greeting!

    Hey Julie,

This is my first blog…I have been enjoying your website & conversations for about a year now.
Please keep an eye out for anything in the cruiser motorcycle (and not just Harley) line. My husband & I do alot of riding (I’m on the back, taking pictures), & there is just not much selection out there.

    Thank you for your enthusiasm!
    Nancy

I would like you to look for stickers (possibly cardstock, if not, whatever you see) about “learning to brush your teeth.” Everything I see is about braces or other orthodontic issues. I have cute pics of my little nephew learning to brush his teeth on his own and no stickers to scrapbook with. Another category would be small town fairs and a bigger mardi gras collection. I also appreciate that you do look for specific items for your customers!

Good luck on the weight loss! I have struggled my whole life w/my weight and I think my biggest problem is that I hate to excercise. My hobbies are: reading, surfing the web, taking pics, and of course – SCRAPBOOKING!!! None of those require much energy, unfortunately :0(

Sorry to hear about your friend. I’ll will pray for her and her family.
