Scrap Your Trip Die Cut Clearance

Entry Filed under: New Items Added

My son Logan said the funniest thing yesterday.  I put it on Facebook, but I thought it was so funny I wanted to share with everyone.   This is last week before school starts next Wednesday, so they have been spending lots of time with Dad, going here and there.  Yesterday, they were headed to the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa.  I was talking to Logan on the phone while they were in the car, telling him I hope they had lots of fun.   "It’s a museum.  It’s not supposed to be amazing!"   I just cracked up laughing.  The sad part was that they all thought it was very mediocre and not at all amazing.  I guess I am going to have to take him to some amazing museums so he knows it’s possible.  If anyone has any museums to recommend, please let me know.   When I said the other day we were running out of room for all the new products, I really meant it.  We are discontinuing over 2100 Scrap Your Trip exclusive die cuts to free up some space.  They are all marked down 25%.  There are so many, we had to put them on three different pages.  Click here to see: Page 1, Page 2 and Page 3.   Today is also the last day to get an additional 15% off all the rest of the clearance items (not including the SYT die cuts put on clearance today).  Just enter coupon code EXTRA15OFF at checkout and your discount will be applied.

Thank you to everyone who had endorsed Scrap Your Trip so far for the AMX/NBC Shine A Light award.  We made it to the front page!  (Bottom left-hand corner)

I always liked the Museum of Science of Industry in Chicago. Although it has not changed much in all of the years I have gone there. They have an awesome display of Christmas trees from around the world during Christmas time. I have never been to the one in Tampa so I do not know how they compare.

Any of the Smithsonian museums are great. I took my niece for the 4th of July to the Nation’s Capitol and she had a blast!!

Julie – I just had to comment on your museum question. My dad is a museum buff… We have been to museums all over the country. By far the best is the Museum of Science and Industry. When I was young, and it was still free, my dad would take me there, set me down and follow me around as a toddled from telephone to telephone listening to every single one. It didn’t matter if they were all saying the same thing or if they were in English, I still had to listen to them all! They’ve really made an effort in the last 10 years to modernize the museum with the times but some of the most popular exhibits have stayed their course. The coal mine is unbelievable as well as the U505 submarine. It is a real Russian sub that the US captured in war. They also currently have the first ever Harry Potter Exhibit which I haven’t seen yet but have heard it is awesome. Next time you take the family to Chicago it is a must hit. And make sure you allow most of the day for it because it is huge!

PS – I mean the one in Chicago… It is the only one in my mind. ;)

By far my favorite museum in Colonial Williamsburg. You have to pay quite a bit to get in, but it is soooo worth it. Logan would probably enjoy any cannon or gun’s firing. Fife and Drums are always a blast and Revolutionaly City is a play that takes place on the streets. Its a blast!

The Science museum in Cleveland, Ohio is pretty awesome. We took our son their and he had a wonderful time.

It’s not a museum but right there in Tampa we took the kids to Lowry’s Zoo and they loved it. They were able to see the animals so close up not far away like a regular zoo. When we went (years ago) they had a bald eagle that my son stared at for at least 1/2 an hour becuase it was only a few feet away. He was mesmorized.
    Good luck.:)

    1. Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI are amazing and feature working exhibits the kids can take part in – dipping candles, setting type on an old newspaper, lathing brass, etc. Watching glass blowing is really cool. The village is all outside and the Henry Ford has all early model vehicles, and trains. Very Cool.
    2. I have added the link to shine a light on my facebook page and several of my friends have endorsed it through there.

I was really impressed with the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis when I had a chance to visit it about 10 years ago. Granted I was in my early 20′s at the time, but I know I would have loved that place as a kid.

    Hi Julie-

I am a lifelong resident of Washington, DC, so I have a bit of a biased opinion. The Smithsonians are the best and they are all FREE! The Air and Space Museum, The natual History Museum, The National Achives (just to name a few). I also work for a Hotel in Washington, DC, so if you and the family would like to stay at my Hotel, please feel free to email me and I will get you the best rate I can.

I loved Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI, when we visited, I was like a kid in a candy store. The Presidential Cars are there along with the Weiner Mobile and the Rosa Parks Bus. There are so many activites for both children that you may have to go back on multiple days!

    Have a great weekend!
    Cathy

My daughter overheard me talking about this and wanted to add her favorite: the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum in Ann Arbor, MI. There is a similar one in Lansing, The Impression 5 (for 5 senses). I’m sure your state also has hands-on museums designed specifically for kids, where they can try everything and use all their senses to explore.

I would have to say the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago , Museum of Natural History in New York City, and The Exploritorium in San Francisco are high on our museum favorites. The Smithsonian is a sure favorite for older kids. I hope one of these WOW’s and amazes all:)

Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry is amazing. Much of the ‘old stuff” I remember going to see as a kid in the 1960′s and now a lot of new modern stuff. Tokk my husband about 10 years ago and we still got a kick out of the coal museum in the basement and the German U-Boat. Tucson has a Children’s Museum that is supposed to be amazing (I can’t go, no kids–the rule is “Adults must be accompanied by children” and they mean it, no kids, no admittance). In the past few years, my pre-teen and teeaged neice and nephey have declared the following museums/parks “AWESOME”–In Vixtoria. BC Butchart Gardens, In Monterrey, CA, the Monterrey Aquarium and the Smithsonian in Washington DC. for you, all these would require travel, not a big problem as far as I can tell from reading your blog. Stay happy!

Any of the Smithsonian Museums in Washington, DC are pretty amazing. The ones with the biggest “WOW” factor would have to be the National Air & Space Museum, The Museum of American History and the Udvar-Hazy Annex to the Air & Space Museum (located next to Dulles Airport in Virginia).

The National Air & Space is by far the most popular museum on the National Mall. The Museum of American History has stuff like the ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, Fonzie’s leather jacket & a bunch of other stuff that would be easily recognized.

The Udvar-Hazy Center provides the greatest “WOW” though as it has an Air France Concorde, the Enola Gay, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird and the Space Shuttle Enterprise (yes the whole thing)…as well as a ton of other stuff.

Looks like you need to take a Midwestern Museum tour, because I’m throwing Indianapolis’ pride and joy into the ring for AMAZING museums. The Children’s Museum in Indy is fantastic and recognized world wide. While you are in town, you can check out the Museum at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (it’s open 9-5, everyday but Christmas and is very inexpensive). We also have the Eitlejorg Museum which has a lot “southwestern” items. The Eitlejorg is near our beautiful zoo. Just north of Indy, is Conner Prairie…. it’s a “living, breathing” trip back in history. There’s a lot to see & do in and around Indianapolis!!

MUST GO TO PARIS !!! Full of great museums. Must see the Mona Lisa at the Louvre. Must go to Musee d’Orsay. Tons of great architecture. Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur. MUST go see Sant Chapelle: hard to find, but basically go through the Ministry of Courts complex and arrive at this amazing church; go up the rickety wood stairs and be prepared to be DAZZLED by the stained glass windows. Your kids history books will come alive and every picture book they have ever seen becomes reality. I also agree with other USA comments about all the Smithsonian Museums in DC and Colonial Williamsburg. Also love Philadelphia !!!
