My “get healthy and fit” quest has had lots of unintended consequences. Like finally trying on my “skinny jeans”. You know, the ones hanging in the back of your closet, your favorite ones you swore you’d get back into one day. Well, I finally tried them on and guess what? They were too big! Everything is my closet is falling off of me.As of this morning, I have lost 19.5 pounds, so nothing fits. Which is a good thing, don’t get me wrong, but now nothing fits! Buying new clothes is fun, but a whole closet full? Not so fun.
On Monday I went dress shopping for a formal dress to wear to the Inc. 5000 Awards Gala (I took all of your advice and decided to go!) It was the funniest thing tying on dresses. The me I see in the mirror is not the same size as the actual me. I kept having to send the salesperson to get smaller sizes. Even now, with my fantastic dress hanging in my closet, I keep looking at it and thinking “There is no way that fits me”!
I can climb stairs without getting winded…carry stuff that used to be too heavy…and get up from sitting on the floor a lot easier now. But probably the best unintended consequence is the effect on my 6-year old son, Logan.
He wants muscles! Big muscles like Daddy. So, he is always “working out” with my weights. Every time he lifts one, he comes over and says “Mommy, feel my muscles! I’ve been working out!” He is also obsessed with getting a “six pack”. A few weeks ago, he pulled up his shirt, pushed both hands with four fingers each into his stomach, and said “Look! I have an eight-pack!”
However, I didn’t realize the extent of his muscle obsession until he drew me the following pictures over the weekend.

Look at those biceps!

He’s making the "I’m lifting weights" face

Oh my gosh – I LOVE all of the stuff added to the Egypt section!! And you are the first company I’ve found who did a belly dancer die cut!! I’ve already used several of these on my recital/performance pages. I will for sure be placing another order this week. You guys are the best!
Julie, I wish you well as you begin this new stage of your life…may God bless you as you and your family make this adjustment.

I LOVE reading about your kids !!! Being childless I find it fun to read about parenting and the funny things kids do !! Tailoring will get your clothes down to size…can always take IN, it is letting OUT that is hard. Pants and skirts are easy. Keep up the good work and enjoy that new dress. YOU GO GIRL

I have walked the walk. It is not easy but after the intitial fear and pain lessen a bit the sense of inner peace is wonderful!! I just relocated into a new much smaller home but it is mine and I feel so calm and happy here. You will too as time goes on. Hang in there, it will be better.

Yes. Daddy’s “little buddy”, Logan, has been obsessed with muscles. He watches daddy exercise sometimes and wants to feel my muscles. He says he wants to be big and strong like me. How much happier can a daddy feel about that? He flexes his biceps for me probably 4-5x/day on his days with me and tells me how strong he’s getting. It’s absolutely adorable!
With mommy exercising and losing 20 lbs and daddy exercising and losing 25 lbs (and dropping to a 32 waist), Logan is definitely getting some heavy exposure to healthy eating and fitness. Being good role models for him at this young, impressionable age is definitely better than mommy or daddy just telling him to eat well and exercise.
I’m really proud of Julie and her recent commitment to slimming down. She looks great and her message to the SYT fans that you all can do it, too, is not only true, but inspirational.
Tony

Please share your healthy & fit pointers, since I’m still drifting and need all the motivation I can get. Thanks & love the drawings.

Dear Julie,
You don’t know me. I’m just one of the countless women who have relied on your business to keep my sanity through scrapbooking!
I just wanted to let you know how sorry I am for what you are going through right now. I recently divorced as well, and I know the rollercoaster of emotions you are riding. All I can tell you is that it WILL GET BETTER in time!! And your kids will amaze you at how much they can handle, and their endless capacity for love and forgiveness.
Please know that I’m thinking of you. I doubt there’s much I can do from Colorado, but if you need anything, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Thank you for sharing your life with me. All my best!

I, too, would love to know your workout. I walk/run 3 – 4 times a week, but haven’t added a weightlifting workout. I really don’t know what to do and for how many sets and such. The eating healthy is under control for the most part. I’m at a stand still with weight loss and feel weight lifting is the answer. Help!!

I’m trying to print some of the layouts for future reference when I have time to do a page and they won’t print for me. Is there a reason? thanks
