Scrap Your Trip Adds 244 Items + 244 S*A*L*E Items

I’ve always wanted to be a “journaler”.  I can’t tell you how many beautiful notebooks and journals I have purchased.  I have two drawers full, just at the office!  I thought that the better the notebook, the better chance I stood of actually using it.  It didn’t work. :-(
One time, I tried “morning pages”, based on “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron.  The concept is that you write for three pages every morning.  Just whatever happens to pop into your head and come out on paper.  Even though I had a really cool notebook, I only made it for two mornings.

Now that I have some time to myself, I am proud to announce that I have finally started!  When I moved into my condo, it was over two weeks before I got TV and internet access.  Let me tell you, it’s REALLY quiet with no TV and no internet access.  So quiet, that I was actually able to hear some of the stuff that had been bouncing around in my head.

So I sat down with a notebook (not even the prettiest one) and stuff just came spilling out.  And out.  And out.  I have gone from “not a journaler” to “everyday journaler”. Some days, even a “twice-a-day journaler”.

All this writing has been very cathartic.  I can start out writing in a bad mood and end up in a good one or vice versa.  Sometimes my hand can’t keep up with my brain and sometimes it takes awhile to put words to my thoughts.  Sometimes it comes out so fast I can barely read my handwriting after.

The other thing I have found is that my psyche is like an onion…so many layers!  It’s amazing all the things that pop up after you get the first layer removed. :-)

So, here’s my challenge to you.  Can you find some time in your life to “go quiet” and see what’s there?  I think we all owe it to ourselves.

Totally agree about life without TV… I had no TV or internet for 3 months when I was living in Guernsey & I did not miss it!
I try to write something each evening, I find i sleep better if my head is clear.

Recently I started doing this with the Lord in my quiet time. I ask Him to tell me something about Himself that I don’t know/have forgotten/need to know. THAT was amazing!

Then I ask Him to tell me something about myself. Having the God of creation speak truth, life and love into my life has changed me forever!

I am afraid that if I take the time to “go quiet” and see what’s there I will burst into tears and have a mental breakdown :(

However….I may risk it just to try what Mrs. Connie Hopkins is doing because I think that may be what I need right now :)

I was just like you, collecting all the beautiful notebooks BUT only to keep them in my drawer too! I wanted to write “something” but I told myself (I know, I know, excuses!) that the notebooks were just toooo pretty to use. After reading your post, I actually wrote ONE PAGE in my notebook TODAY! YAY!

Btw Julie, I can’t seem to find anything (stickers, die-cuts or papers) on many South-east Asia countries. Most of the time, there are products mainly for Japan and China (a lot!). Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia/Bali, and Vietnam has many interesting places, and more and more tourists are visiting this part of the world. I am sure many scrapbookers would like to have some products for these countries.

SYT DID have some die-cuts for some SEA countries BUT it’s only the name of the country. I, and many other scrapbookers I’ve talked to, would love to see more other products besides just die-cuts! What do you think, Julie? Any chance? Thanks.

Just got your latest note (that’s how I feel about them) and I’m going to be 69 Sunday and could never journal, but wanted to leave things for my children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Every time I tried writing about myself to myself, I froze up. Nothing sounded intertesting to me.

But then email came along and my best friend of 54 years and I email back and forth about everything, just like we’ve always done writing before emailing. We email every time we want to tell each other something (I live in Pensacola and first she lived in San Diego, our home town, and now lives in AZ) so that can be 2 or 3 times a week, every day, or sometimes more than once a day. We’ve always written very long letters and emails to each other. Sadly we never saved our letters, and now I wish we had and just exchanged them, because they tell everything about our children growing up. Now that they’ve grown up, I save all of my emails to text to & from her and have since 2004. Those are my journals! Sometimes I may have to edit them before saving to text, if I’m upset with a child or grandchild (and I don’t delete everything) but they’re all about my day to day struggles and I just find it so much easier writing to my friend than to myself. If I live long enough, I’ll put them in journal form – otherwise, at least my family (husband, too, of course!) will know how much I loved them.

My mom wrote journals but what she wanted life to be like, not like it really is – it doesn’t even sound like her, so we didn’t get any real insight to her. Since she never talked about her life as a child, I’ve told my children everything (whether they want to hear it or not) so they’ll know who I really am. Some things go in one ear and out the other, but these email “journals” tell all about me, because they’re so honest! Just thought I’d share that with you.

My emails (journals) are so cathartic! We tell each other our good news, bad news, sad news, everything from the perspective of writing to someone we trust completely with our thoughts. Since I know they’re also journaling, I write down things that happened when I was younger, even before meeting her about my childhood, my fears and good times. Anything that comes to mind, even my crazy dreams!

About having no TV, when Hurricane Ivan came through here, we were without everything for 6 days and I wrote a journal about the experience of going through the hurricane. I made a scrapbook (bought your hurricane die cuts) of all of the newspaper articles at the time, since we weren’t allowed to go to the locations and take pictures. I’m also good about journaling on a trip – I’d never remember what I did and saw if I didn’t!

When our grandson Bradley fell on concrete and cracked his head at 19 and had to have brain surgery, I saw him every day for a week until we knew he was out of the woods, and wrote a journal about how I felt and how much I loved him and will give it to him one day – that was in 2001.

Sorry, I’m rambling – it was 3 weeks before we knew for sure that Bradley was going to live and was able to walk and talk! He has symptoms like a stroke victim, so has some speech problems and one side was affected, so he can’t use his right arm, but he’s alive and well and his gifted brain is still as good as ever. I knew that when we were trying to think of the word for sounds of things (I had never even learned it and English was always my best subject!) and his aunts and sister couldn’t think of it – he said what it was and spelled it, so I knew he was going to be okay!

When I started reading your e-mail, I thought you were talking about me – I have a habit if buying pretty journal books with the good intention of writing in them but year after year, they sit in the drawers, the boxes, all over the house. Daily journaling is still beyond me but I am going to start a mini journal of random thoughts. Wish me luck!

  • 12. Terri Brewster&hellip  |  September 23rd, 2009 at 12:15 pm

    Julie,
Glad to hear that journaling is becoming a habit. I have journaled for years and have a stack of them in my closet. I am now journaling my way through weight loss as frustrating as it is at times, it has kept me from giving up and giving up my workouts. I am slowly getting to my goal. Keep it up, it makes life a little more clear.
    Have a great day!
