Scrap Your Trip Adds 239 Items + 239 S*A*L*E Items
I am the kind of person who tries to learn a lesson in everything. I figure that everything happens for a reason and it’s up to me to figure out what the reason is. At the very least, there is something I can learn from whatever happens, right? So, what lesson can I learn from the fire alarm going off in my building at midnight the other night? Turns out there were plenty of them!
First, it amazed me at how many people in the building assumed it was a false alarm and didn’t evacuate. Of the whole building, only 5 units evacuated. Now, I wasn’t thrilled about being outside in the middle of the night, but since when do you not head outside when there is a fire alarm? It must be deeply ingrained in me since elementary school.
But the biggest lesson came next. After about ten minutes, and not hearing any sirens, I started asking people if anyone had called 911. Nope. Not one person (of course, I only had 5 to ask, remember). Everyone “assumed” that they had been notified automatically, or that someone else had already called.
Well, I never “assume” anything, so I called 911. Turns out I was the first to call. Imagine that! Within 5 minutes, the Osceola County Fire Department was on the scene (kudos to them!). By that time, I had already found the number for the property management company and their emergency line (didn’t get me anywhere, but that’s a whole different story).
Since I was stuck outside with only my iPhone, I thought this was Facebook worthy.
See, that was my next lesson. There is a bright side to everything.
In all seriousness, my big lesson was this: Take Action. Be the person who says “If it’s going to be, it’s up to me.” Don’t assume, because I know you all know that saying!
Oh, and one more thing…if there is a fire alarm…EVACUATE THE BUILDING!
