I am excited because one of my two oldest friends was just here visiting. She lives in Texas and I live in Seattle, but after 52 years of friendship it often feels like she is next door. My really oldest friend will be here in 28 days! We have been friends for 56 years and she lives in California. We were all military brats and we have worked as hard on our friendship as you must on a marriage. I met them as a grade schooler in different parts of the world...3 years together at first cemented our life long friendship..then our Dads were transferred to other parts of the world. So we depended on letter writing and school photos over the years we were apart. Then a miracle (in military life) and our Dads transfer in our teen years and all 3 of us were at the same base and my two best friends met. One year later one was transferred away. But letter writing kept us close. I have been their bridesmaids and they were mine. The last few years with e-mail and text messaging have been awesome for us..not waiting 2 weeks to get an answer to a question. Long distance calls are so easy and not only done in dire emergencies as in our childhoods and plane tickets are affordable. As Liz said above "true friendship knows no boundaries". Now if the scrapbooking industry understood long term friendship better maybe it would be easier to scrap our lifes because a BFF just doesn't work after 50 yrs of shared memories.

Old friends TRULY are THE BEST !! My friend Elisa and I have been friends since 1967. I moved into her neighborhood when I was 5. She was waiting by the front door when the moving van pulled up and was so happy to see a kid AND a GIRL...Elisa has three older brothers, so me being a new kid and a girl was an extra bonus. I moved when I started high school and then she moved after high school, but we always managed to remember birthdays and Christmas. I live in NY and she lives in FL, but we have never lost touch and thank goodness for email. True friendship knows no boundaries and the miles apart fade away.

Girlfriends are such an important part of our lives, we couldn't survive without them! My best girlfriend & i had a dissagreement last June and she will not speak to me at all. Some things were said & I have apologized over & over. She said some really mean things to me & I retaliated & apologized & now she acts like the 'victim'. She must have spread the story all over, because none of the ladies that we were in dance class with will even talk to me. I have not talked to anyone about it but her. I ran into her at a local store & she looked at me like i was an alien & RAN away so fast. Her young 11 yr old daughter waved & smiled though! :) I have tried multiple times to contact her & see if she would like to get together on neutral ground & at least TALK. I guess she isn't even adult enough to respond. I miss having my girlfriends. But I guess she wasn't really a FRIEND if she doesnt want to work it out. treasure your girlfriends. They are sisters you choose for yourself!!! Have a great day everyone!
