Entry Filed under: New Items Added

On Wednesday I was talking about all the ways I could say “Life is good”.  Yesterday I was able to add something to the list.  I am able to say that I am friends with my ex-husband.

We spent three hours going over the summer schedule, making lots of adjustments based on travel schedules, vacations, etc.  Not a cross word was said.

We told each other about who we were dating.  When he told me about the woman he is dating now, I broke out into a big smile.  I am so happy for him!  I just want him to be as happy as I am.  We were not meant for each other, but we spent 18 years together and were the best of friends for a very long time.

I was even able to share the following story with him:

The kids and I used to listen to “Living La Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin in the car all the time.  Tony HATED that song, so we could only listen to it when he wasn’t around and would have to stop as soon as he got back into the car.

When we were in the car on one of our date nights, my “gorgeous smartest guy I’ve ever met” plugged his iPhone in so that he could play music.  The song he played?  “Living La Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin.  I threw back my head and laughed. And laughed.  :-)

It was nice to be able to share that story with Tony…and he’s the only other person who understands the significance.

So many people can’t even be in the room with their ex.  Even years later.  I am so grateful that after it’s all is said and done, I can still call my ex my friend.  Thank you Tony. :-)

Loved your story about your ex-husband, July. My ex of 33 years is also my friend and we email and FB each other frequently about the kids and the grandkids; but the biggest surprise ever was when I received tulips on Mother’s Day this year and the card in the box read “Surprise! Happy Mother’s Day. Paul”

He sent me tulips in 1973 for Valentine’s day when he was overseas in the Navy. I emailed him a thanks and said “you never forgot, did you?” and his simple reply was “nope”.

And Yes, I’ve scrapbooked the Motherj’s Day tulips with the story behind it.

Your posts are always awesome. They actually bring tears to my eyes.
My parents divorced and were on very bad terms. Many years later my siblings and I were adults and tired of doing double duty at the holidays. One year when making the plans, we simply insisted that there was going to be one dinner and they were both invited. It worked. My dad came with his wife and the world did not end. In fact, they liked each other. They even became friends again and every gathering was a joy. When my dad died five years ago, my mom started thinking about where she wanted to be buried. She asked to be laid next to him. That’s not going to happen but she is going to be buried back in our home state with “his” family. Yes…… La Vida Loca!!!!

I have loved reading your entries! I shared with a lady who is going thru the thoughts of getting a divorce what you said about making YOU happy and the changes you have made and how happy you are. I hope it made a difference for her. You are an inspiration. I am thankful for the friend who thru a swap we were in told me about your site.
