"Don’t let the illusions trick you." This is on a paper taped to my bathroom mirror. I taped it there so I would read it every morning, but it’s been there for awhile and some days I don’t even see it anymore. Actually, the piece of paper says the following:It’s working, Julie! Every day you’re getting closer! Everything you’ve ever wanted is being pressed toward you. Everything is clicking. Don’t let the illusions trick you. Don’t let the events of today dampen your spirits. Things couldn’t be any better than they are now. You couldn’t have more reasons to celebrate. Now! Do it! The hardest work is done! Just show up, be present, open every door and let events unfold. Life is your stage. This is your parade. Together we can do anything.I get these awesome "Notes from the Universe" written by this guy Mike Dooley (who just happens to live in Orlando) every morning and this one came back in March, at a particularly low point in my life. "Don’t let the illusions trick you.", it said. "Don’t let the events of today dampen your spirits." And it was exactly what I needed to hear that day to get me through.
I love it when you’re hot,
The Universe
They sure are tricky, those illusions, aren’t they? Those things we tell ourselves? The stories we make up? I call them my "barbed wire" stories. You know, stories that are wrapped up in barbed wire so it REALLY hurts when you play around with them in your head..
I’ve done a LOT of work on myself in the last few years…the last nine months especially. So, when I let the "illusions trick me", I tend to be pretty hard on myself. But then…I see this taped to my bathroom mirror in the morning. I may not have "seen" it for weeks, but all of a sudden, it’s poster board size. "Don’t let the illusions trick you." And I remember that people are busy living their own lives, with their own stresses and challenges, and I’m probably not even on their radar screen. At least not in the bad way that I might think I am. And I try to remember that my vulnerabilities and insecurities are just part of what makes me human.
So, I smile, put down my barbed wire and think to myself, "Everything you’ve ever wanted is being pressed toward you. Everything is clicking. Just show up, be present, open every door and let events unfold." Stop trying to control everything and "let events unfold." Hard to do sometimes when you are as big of a control freak as I am! But I keep working on it.
These words have been really helpful to me. I wanted to share them in hopes that they might be helpful to you too.
Now, on to scrapbook supplies!
Can you believe that it’s Father’s Day weekend already? We have our Father’s Day collection, “For Dad” a masculine blend of twill and argyle. On one of our papers (SYT-3138, Frames), we designed it so that you could take two 4×6 pictures, place them in the “photo” spot, add a little journaling and voila, instant layout. This week we also have “Dad” by Karen Foster, and for the “bug lover” in your family, the adorable "Bug-A-Boo" line by Carolee’s Creations.
Well, you KNOW how my staff loves BoBunny – this week’s new BoBunny collections are no exception. “Sunkissed,” in Tiffany’s words, are “like a box of popsicles” – they are fun, vibrant and the line has the perfect summer colors. “Block Party” is very versatile. It’s picnic-“ish”, 4th of July-“ish” and is even perfect for cook-outs and summertime grillin.’ Paper Wizard has been hard at work as well. We love their detail and the different assortment of paper that they use! And finally, we have “Summer Squash Soup” by Jillibean Soup – we think that you’ll love this collection as well.

That is such a GREAT quote! I am going to “borrow” it as my facebook wall post for today!
My journey right now is weight loss – joined a Body Challenge at a gym and I think I need to put that quote on my bathroom mirror too!
Thanks for sharing.

I’ve never posted here before, but I just wanted to say thanks for your message passed along today. It’s a great reminder for those of us who have a hard time getting out of the driver’s seat and have a great need to control.
“Just let the events unfold”…”the hardest work is already done”…I love it!

wow Julie. I have to say, this post could not have come at a better time for me. I’ve been struggling with my own “barbed wire” thoughts and it’s been very stressful on me. I’m a new mom and have been feeling like my in laws are judging me on my parenting skills and even though I know I’m doing just fine with my little guy, the thoughts of them not agreeing just toss and turn in my head until I’m just freaked out about it! but your quote really made me stop and think, it also brought tears to my eyes. it’s so simple, but i guess sometimes, in our busy lives we need reminding of the simple things. thank you so much for being my reminder this morning. what a great way to start my day….I’m putting down the barbed wire and moving on! thank you!

When I got divorced 5 years ago my son and I were at a Chinese Buffet and inside my fortune cookie was the following saying; “Time heals all wounds. Keep your chin up.” I have kept this taped to my computer ever since. It is so true. I met my new husband two years after my divorce. The wounds I had from my previous husband have healed and I have become a stronger person because of it.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
I am personally still working on the wisdom part…
